an immbolizer is simply a way to make sure a vehicle can only start with its assigned key from factory. Basically to prevent theft. On gm cars: if you've had a gm car and look at that little black box looking thing on the key, it is a resistor. When you turn the key before it starts the ecu looks for a certain resistance in which the key is built with, and if it doesnt have it then it doesnt start. Other cars now have chips and stuff in the key but its the same concept

oh and with hondas i with years that have immobilizers i think only america and canada have them. A lot of people that do usdm k20 swaps end up having to get jdm ecus because of immobilizers

When selecting USDM OBD2 Integra ECUs, avoid the 99-01 units, as they're equipped with a vehicle immobilizer device. Although this anti-theft deterrent can be removed, it will cost you extra cash to have it done, and there aren't many folks who know how to do it. You can either use a JDM ecu which does not have immobilizers to solve the problem or get Hondata Kpro and have them flash the ecu (k20a2) and for those who dont want to spend $900 dollars on Kpro then you can go the alternate route and get a JDM ITR k20a ECU instead which is around $300 for K series motors.
