whats a good upgraded cam for d15b vtec

The JDM D15B cam is already quite aggressive and similar to the zex. Save the money, and invest in something else.

that makes no sense, if you build a motor for allmotor, im pretty sure you wont be able to able boost and hope it lives past tuning.

Lighten your car and you will see a big different, get lightweight 14s inch rims also

Re: whats a good upgraded cam for d15b vtec (JDM EK9)

one of the best things for both worlds is a decent light weight flywheel and clutch .. both are good for turbo.. rite now im running a 7.5 lbs flywheel with my turbo set up LOL.. yes people say its too light..but works fine for me

Re: whats a good upgraded cam for d15b vtec (ShowTymers619)

the d15b vtec has a shorter block than the d16z6/y8...therefore the aftermarket cams for the z6/y8 motors will throw your timing off by 18* (could be wrong about the exact amount of timing but i know its close). Unless you plan on going through the trouble of correcting the timing difference i wouldnt worry about upgrading the cam, basically your only choice is a custom grind which will cost more than your motor is worth. In all honesty an all motor d-series is really not worth it, save your money for a turbo set-up and make some real power.

Re: whats a good upgraded cam for d15b vtec (Devine)

What do you guys mean he cant go all motor then turbo. the guy can go with after market rods pistons at 10:1 and aftermarket cam and valvatrain set and ready for turbo. And who says that the d15b cam is almost the same as the zex cam do you have a dyno chart to prove it.

Re: whats a good upgraded cam for d15b vtec (EKSOHCV-TechRider)

ya, i was gonna build the d15b7 bottom end to a 1.7@ about a 10 to 1 compression, good for all motor or f/i, because all i have to do change the head gasket. ok, my goal before i go boost is a 14.5 quarter mile, w slicks on the sohc, so tell me what i need to do to acomplish this.

WTF are you talking about, they just got a different bottom end. Heads are the same except cam specs of jdm d15b are comparable to ZEX 59300 cam, therfore superior to d16z6 cam.

And you don't want to go N/A first unless you wonna build to different motors. Then when you want to boost you will be praying and pissing your pants that you won't break something running super low boost. Kind of a pointless idea, but that's just me.

If you want improvment before you go turbo, get a b series TB, d16y8 IM, tunning the p28 (unless you are running p08) will yeild extra power (might as well go uberdata so you can tune for boost). BTW if it's an eg hatch you could prolly break into 14s on slicks with or without mods.

quite similar... not bashing, just givin' out helpful info https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

this is user 'eg6ajk'
check his thread https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=692065

better yet:

I would pm member eg6ajk. He had the zex 59300 cam in his d15b tuned and it only made 4whp so I seriously doubt the 59100 would do shit. I would probably consider going with a slightly more agressive cam than the zex 59300 for a d15b. </TD></TR></TABLE>

indeed while, as in '01, I did few test, and run the cam in my EG, basically E/H/ECU setup made 117whp, after the cam top end jumped to 121whp, gains past 6k rpm good to about to 7.5k rpm. This was with no tuning, just a simple drop in.

car at the dyno while back.

dyno of different ECU setups (from P28 XS to RPT P08) on the D15b
http://www.geocities.com/gtssport/dyno/dynod15b.txt

my findings on the 59300 are:
-its noisy, regardless of the valve settings
-power improvements only felt past 6k rpm
-timing off by about 5degrees (either way (adv or ret) will depend on install)
-overall I would not buy another one I would opt for Exo or Crower stage 3 grinds or better

i, too would like to know what aftermarket cams i can get... maybe a crower stg.2? or should i just raise compression?

Are you working with a JDM SOHC VTEC D15B? or a d15b7 CX motor? You said vtec in your first post...I was implying that the JDM D15B cam is very similar to the ZEX cam. I hope you were talking about the jdm motor not the cx piece.

Re: whats a good upgraded cam for d15b vtec (Chillin94hatch)

no, i have the jdmd15b vtecmotor in my car right now, but im going to biuld the bottom end of the dx motor, and put the vtec head on it. make the d15b7 a 1.7. i thought the cx motor was a d15b6, 3 or something like that, mines a 92 dx hatch and had the b7

more options...

exospeed?
skunk2?
crower?

just wait for input from others who have done it https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

i definitely suggest raised compression with a big lumpy cam... that and a good intake manifold and header and you'll have some fun!

D15B8 = CX (70 hp) 8 Valve
D15B7 = DX,LX (102 hp) 16 Valve

Any cam that you get that is better than the stock D15B cam you'll need to upgrade your springs and retainers...crower makes a turbo cam i'd check that out

what about exospeed, will at exospeed is checking on that for me, wether or not their stage 2 cam will do any good, anyone used an exospeed cam before?
