What's going on here?
So I did an oil change last night to find that I had only about 2-3 qts of oil that drained out of the pan.... I have new rings, gaskets, and valve seals etc.... What could cause my engine to consume oil??? 2nd... I decide to go ahead and change the fluid in my trans from mobil 10-30 (as previously recommended by Honda) to 2.5 qts of Honda MTF. In doing so, my magnetic drain bolt was COVERED in metal shavings.... Is this normal and usually just unnoticed with a non-magnetic drain bolt? or should I be concerned? Thanks in advance for anyone who took time to read this and lend comments!

as far as the transmission drain plug, YES it is normal for this to happen. Not sure why but it happens to every magnetic drain plug I have seen to date. Also, inside the transmission is a magnetic plate to collect this, but the drain plug actually lets you get it out of the transmission.

Yeah...you aren't supposed to re-use pistons. My friend re-used B16 pistons when he did his LS/VTEC and he was burning a ton of oil...he stripped it down...found out that the pistons had become oval shaped (this happens to pistons over time due to wear...you NEVER re-use pistons) and he had to have his block bored to oversize and use oversize pistons...I can pretty much guarantee that if you're randomly losing oil and you dont know where it's going its probably bad pistons...

oh well, time to switch to the overbore CTR's...
on second thought... I've heard bad things about going that route.
