search the honda chassis code list. EK is just the blanket term for 1996-2000 civics. EK9 is the actual civic type R. not released in the U.S., only in europe and japan. a normal civic hatch of these years is an ej6.

Only in Japan, was sold in the UK/Europe as a grey market vehicle.
