Re: whats the difference between a b16a1 and b16a2 (poetter)
I don't think honda ever made a b16a1...maybe a b16a? But to answer your question internally not much if any just that the b16a is jdm and obd0 while the b16a2 is usdm and jdm but the jdm is obd1 and the usdm is obd2b. I think.

For future references, B16a2 is different than B16a generation 2. Don't use SirI or SirII to refer these motors.

i'm assuming you mean the difference in a JDM pre-OBD and JDM OBDI B16,as many people refer to them as B16A1 and B16A2?

THANK YOU!if people would just properly refer to these motors,it would be so much easier.they don't seem to have a problem with anything but the JDM B16s for some reason.

ahhh, but what about an OBDI/OBDII B16a?their cam is very similar,if not identical to the B16A2.but,i guess you meant a pre-OBD JDM B16?who knows?
seriously,we REALLY need to distinguish in the different B16s before this goes any farther,or there will be tons of wrong info.
1)B16A:JDM B16,there are pre-OBD,OBDI and OBDII versions.NONE have a number designation after the "A".
referring to them as SiRI and SiRII is WRONG!SiRI and SiRII are trim level designations used in several of the Civic generations in Japan,so it IS NOT an accurate way to refer to pre-OBD,OBDI or OBDII.
referring to them as B16A1 and B16A2 is WRONG!the number after the "A" is used on American(as well as other contries, but NOT Japan)motors to discern different models of the motor.there is no B16A1 in America, and referring to an OBDI JDM B16 as a "B16A2" will mislead people to think you're talking about the US motor!
2)B16A2,B16A3:these are the American B16s used in the Del Sol VTEC and 6G Si coupe.some of the Del Sol VTECs(94,95)were OBDI,96+were OBDII.all the Si coupes are OBDII.2 .........
PLEASE refer correctly to the motors or nobody will know what the hell you mean.
pre-OBD/OBDI/OBDII B16a are correct terminology for the JDM motors,as is first/second gen B16a.
B16A2/B16A3 is the proper way to refer to the US B16s.

jesus christ, show me a B16A1 from a CRX/Civic!so,how the hell do you differentiate when somebody says B16A2?do they mean a US 99-00 Civic Si,or an OBDI JDM B16a?hell,let's just throw all proper terminology out the window-then all the people who are trying to learn will have tons on wrong info, and they'll spread that wrong info and..........oh wait, that's already happened,it's called Honda-Tech.

Re: whats the difference between a b16a1 and b16a2 (poetter)
jdm obd1 engines are rated a little higher at 168hp. While the U.S. obd1 B16A3(del sol) is rated at 160hp and the obd2 b16A2(99+si) is also rated at 160. The obd0 B16 was rated the lowest at 158hp if I'm not mistaken.

good info.
the OBDI+ B16s have a better intake manifold, slightly higher compression and different cam specs-these factors contribute to the higher HP.
