Default Whats the diff between C/F hoods and OEM, aesthetically wise

I want to paint my del sol white with a black hood, and everyone i talk to about it says get C/F, except for my dad, he says if the paint job on the OEM is done right it shouldn't matter. But does it?

I don't really have the money to spend on a C/F unless someone can find one for $300-400 with shipping, so i want to stick with the cheaper metal hood

if you're not going for weight savings... there's no reason to get a carbon fiber hood and paint it. if you don't paint ur cf hood.. you'll eventually get those blemishes from engine heat.

Cheap carbon fiber is, well, cheap. The only difference is weight saving/cool points. It's the "in" thing to do.

It your damn car. If you want a black hood, get a black hood.

If i could afford to paint my cf hood, i would...
I have mine because it was a lot cheaper, at the time, to get one than a stock replacement (i hit a deer).
The thing with CF hoods....theyre not really CF...theyre fiberglass with an overlay (more than likely).
Either way, as said, theyre a lot lighter than the factory hood...and weight savings is what theyre supposed to be for.

i always wondered peoples motivation in painting their hoods black.

i figured they didn't know what carbon fiber was...and just thought people had black hoods....

now i know.

Why do you want a black hood?

panda?

Like stated earlier, if you're trying to panda and not weight reduce get an OEM hood.

If you want to panda using a carbon fiber pattern or want weight reduction, CF is what you want.

I personally prefer CF over panda

Carbon fiber if you want to leave it unpainted. If you go OEM I suggest you paint it. I don't understand the whole black hood on a white/red/etc. car. I think it looks tacky and that your trying to mimic a CF hood.

eBay, if you can find the right sellers you can get a decent quality CF hood for around the price you stated too.

Is painting your hood black rice? I always wanted to do it but it looks poor. Carbon Fiber is expensive and why spend so much money on it. What happens if you get in a accident and its not repairable? What do you do then?

Listen to your dad.

It's not rice at all :-\

And so what, if somebody's going to say it's rice, it's rice.

What the expletive are you going to do? Ask 77% of people that own hondas if it's rice to make sure your general consensus says you can add the part you want to add? Then ONLY after that you can add the part that YOU find aesthetically pleasing?

Stupid ******* bullshit.

I say CF is a waste b/c up here we get lots of ice 'n **** and if you don't swap hoods for the winter it simply won't make it through winter. Anybody from NY will tell you the same ****, a CF hood will last 1 or 2 years, assuming that's with mild winters. They don't last long.

On the flipside, I feel white body (pearl white) with a sharp black contrast on the hood is very nice. Just as nice (though cleaner) than a CF hood on a white car.

If you paint your hood black, paint your roof black as well or it'll look fucked up.

I agree with Syndacate. If you think it looks sweet just do it. Plus I like the panda look - when I put some new paint on my white EG I plan on painting the hood black.

I wouldn't paint the roof or trunk though in my opinion that's over doing it - and it looks like a poor-mans racing stripe.

Uhh....no.
I gurantee weather in Michigan is the same, if not harsher, than NY. My hood has no real issues at all.

And lots of people have been painting hoods black, long before CF...

What can I say, you're a prodigy amongst the general population.

At everybody (except you) harsh winters own CF. Most pple with CF here swap the hoods for the winter. The ones who don't, the hood doesn't usually last too long.

lol thx i was asking because i saw pictures of a del sol thats white with a black hood and i thought it looked better than a black honda. It seems more interesting.

And in new york i think they use salt as a de-icer and it causes rust on cars, thats why cars on the east coast are more likley to rust than cars on the west coast where the winters arn't as bad, and often..

I don't know what kind of affect salt would have on C/F tho.

And i think if i painted the roof black it would look weird. its a del sol, so its small not like a civic

meh, its your car do what you like.

I personally like cars that are color matched, not into the whole two tone, JDM y0 look.

And the Panda look is EVERYwhere in Florida, maybe thats why I don't like it.

Fully painted white del Sol with no tints and bronze wheels = teh win.

does a carbon fiber hood really make a noticeable difference weight wise than an oem hood?

yeah, we use salt on the roads here too...probably more than any other state (because the big three really have a deal with the road commission)

You will definately notice the weight when youre handling the hoods yourself....but you probably will not notice anything at all while driving
