Use a d16a6, d16z6, or obd1 JDM d15b VTEC. Don't bother with a USDM d15 bottom end.

A b7/y8 mini-me would yield a ~10.7:1 compression ratio with toothpick rods that cost $750 to replace with beefier ones. I don't see what's so about suggesting a d16a6 or d16z6 instead.

mine runs just fine. i just finished everything and ive been working on it since september

and i spanked my friends d16z6 by more than half a car length with my mini me swap

of course if you go to boost it, you gotta put new rods in, i wouldnt condone not doing so, im going to boost within the next month or so but 750 for rods? sounds like a rip off to me. but then again, my b7 is JDM not USDM

The only rods that will fit a d15 crank cost $750. The only exception is the obd1 JDM d15b VTEC.

Who else offers them?</TD></TR></TABLE> i know of two companys that are local to where i am that make their own forged rods for the d15b7 that cost between 500-600, which i could get a break on price, id have to get their names, i dont know them off hand. i know about the rarity of the d15b7 rods. but to think that only one company makes the d15b7 beefier rods is hilarious.

edit: they arent established companys like crower, but from what ive been told, they are realiable if you boost with the rods

I only knew of one other possibility of forged replacement rods for the d15b7, and they haven't been released (and I don't even know if they will). $500-600 is still a lot more than ~$250 for d16 rods. It would still be cheaper to get a d16 block and a set of forged d16 rods than to replace the b7's, probably even at your discount.

Haha. Why not get pistons with a higher compression height?

Haha. I'm trying to save you (and the OP) some money. But it's not my car, so to each his own.

how about a rebuilt a6 bottom end with a z6 head? and a 6th gen tranny out of an EX so you dont have to worry about destroying the 5th gen aluminum shift forks.
