what's been keeping me busy with my car....stripping!
I suspended the insurance on it cause it was gonna be down for a while. So, I decide that I'm gonna cure all those damn rattles (there were actually only 3) that I had after the new motor mount inserts were installed. So, off comes every part from teh interior of the car. Yeah, I think I may have gone too far, but the car is totally stripped except the carpet (cause I can't seem to figure out how the hell to get it away from the heater vents in the front). The moldings, garnish, and mirrors outside are gone...and the tailights will be gone soon. In the process, several parts were damaged, so new parts were ordered and 3M tape was sourced to keep the door moldings in place since some clips were damaged. That is the current state of the vehicle.
Plans:
1a) Clean the exterior of the car...wash, clay, clean the paint, glaze and polish and then reinstall the moldings (since we're in the middle of April, its difficult to know when this will be happening...damn rain)
1b) finish the interior of the car...clean and quiet it down with new foam, felt, and parts. Fix a couple of bearings that are shot (like the one that rattles from the seatbelt where it attaches to the B-pillar). Tighten everything down good and hopefully add a trunk light (which was omitted from the car as it was built in Ohio)...which I have yet to go to a junk yard and get.
2) Now that I have the Si tranny in my basement, I'm gonna start rebuilding it. So, I gotta take it apart and examine all the synchros and gears....and buy new bearings. After its done, we'll see how far I go regarding painting/powdercoating it.
3) Take off the old tranny and salvage anything that can be salvaged...like the clutch/flywheel and a couple other things that are missing from the new one. It will be cleaned up and sold as is for a rediculous price.
4) Clean the engine bay, do a complete tune-up, use some Seafoam, change all the fluids, etc.
5) Install all new bushings for ball joints, shifter, and shocks, and install new hardware and bushings for my currently disconnected front sway bar.
6) Put the car back on the road after switching to my Potenza S-03s....I hate the all-season Toyo Proxes on there now!
So, to make a long story short, this thread will be where all the pics are going to be posted of the progress and questions posed as they come along

yeah, I'm gonna definately shampoo my seats and rugs. But, I have to get that piece out from under the heater in the front. How did you guys do it?
and I love that tool set....nice and compact so I don't have to bring out a whole cabinet! I have other little sets of important tools, too.

ialways wanted to ask
HOW DOES ANYONE REMEMBER WHERE EVERYTHING GOES WHEN THEY WANT TO REINSTALL IT?
I would have such trouble remembering where everything goes.
to you thought for trying!

I guess I'll just cut the damn thing and then slide it out...the carpet is a bitch with the heater there. And, I don't remember where everything goes...but, once you start putting things back in, you kinda remember. As for the screws and clips and bolts and nuts, I don't remember about those, I just see what fits....most things only fit in one place.

Very nice. Where did you get it? I want one
BTW I think you are crazy for doing all that just for 3 little squeaks.

Got the tool set at Sears! And, yes, I am crazy to do it for 3 squeaks....but they were maddening! And, its not gonna stay stripped...it used to be my daily driver, but I still want it liveable.

its a bunch of fun! And, I think I've been lucky....have never ended up with extra parts after I finished a car...if anything, I'm missing parts. But, thats why I ordered a bunch of extras....I like to put clips even where there never were!

I'll probably throw the dash in quickly and my driver's seat and see how it feels on a short drive around the block. Probably will be loud as hell, but it would probably be a lot of fun, too!

well, finished stripping the car....got the rug out today. I'm gonna start cleaning up the interior this week because its gonna be raining pretty much all week. Does anyone know what to use to re-attach the inner door seals (plastic pieces)?

That stereo in the basement is straight up boombastic.
Hopefully you weighed the car before, so you can see the results thereafter.

Re: (NateTL17)
here are some more pics
Moldings going back on
All moldings on....next up - mirrors and sail panel trim.
Taillights on again (had taken them off)...mirrors and sail panel trim are on. B-pillar trim is next
Inside is all clean and soundproofing is going in. Soon it'll be ready for the interior again...but not after a little drive "as is"
