Icon2 What's all this garbage? PCV lines / coolant lines from valve cover needed?

Somebody please tell me what these circled areas are. I believe that the line that runs from Location 1 (back of valve cover) to Location 2 (intake) is the PCV valve? If not what the hell is it? And if it is can I remove that garbage, put on that little filter thingy on the valve cover I sometimes see, and put a cap on the other end to prevent a vacuum leak?

And while I'm at it, what is Location 3? It looks like it plugs into the block somewhere about an inch or two from the bottom of the valve cover. I put arrows to guide your eyes along the line. Now that I think about it I think it is the EGR, but I cannot be sure... your help will be much appreciated.

The engine is a D16Z6

1 - 2 is just part of the PCV system. Any gases from blowby up in the valve cover go back into the intake where they're burned again. You could use a filter if you really wanted to but it's not going to net you any performance gains.

The bottom tube is a coolant line. (goes from the 3 to the waterpipe that runs along the back of the block.

Yes, it can be removed and the little filter can certainly go on your valve cover.. The other one underneath is just rad fluid, it can be changed for a nice new piece of rubber coloured or not your preference!!

Pointless story time:

Funny - as I pulled up to my house this afternoon I noticed a pile of trash someone left for me by my driveway. I said exactly the same thing as the title of this post: "What's all this garbage?" Gross neighbours, I think.

And now, to get to the point: OP, please make your post titles informative in future. I will edit this one.

Alright, good good. Now what's this vacuum line right here leading to? Should I use this line to SeaFoam my ride? or should I use the brake booster line?

I wouldn't sea foam it. Waste of time and money. If its high on miles don't. Just run a fuel system cleaner like Lucas and change all your fluids.

My car is high on miles. why not? I've already popped a third in the gas tank, and next weekend I plan on droppin a third into the oil, and the last third into a vacuum line. I will get an oil change the same day.

When i did it with 150,xxx on the clock it smoothed out the idle a bit and it ran a little better.

Some motors it will do nothing and other it will help yet some it causes issues. I used it thru the brake booster before. It didn't do crap

Are you sure? I thought the PCV hose was the one coming out of the valve cover and going into the intake right before the MAP sensor.

the one from the Valve cover is just a breather
the other comes from the PCV box below the Intake manifold to the PCV and then to the Inlet manifold

you can loop it back to the block if you dont have a IACV

if you do have an IACV it will play up with out hot water to it

I didn't think an IACV was optional. I know you can delete an FITV.

1 and 2 are the clean air intake line for the PCV system. It helps flush blowby combustion gases from the crankcase. The gases are expelled through the breather box on the back of the motor through the hose running to the PCV valve, then to the intake manifold ("this is **** here.")

This video shows the removal and cleaning of the breather box and hoses connected to it.
