What are your compression numbers with a z6 head on y8 block?
Hey, anyone with this setup..
d16z6 head, d16y8 headgasket, and d16y8 bottom end. What kind of compression numbers are you getting. Mine seems kinda low and my car seems kinda sluggish. . 170 on all 4 cylinders. Is that normal to expect with my setup?

And 170 is a good number for compression test

170 is a good number. As long as the numbers are between 150 and 200 and they don't vary by more than 20, you're fine.
Your car is probably feeling sluggish because of the timing. If you're not boosted, turn ignition timing to 18 degrees BTDC and see if that makes a difference. Also, cam timing can help as well. Retarded = more power up top, advanced = more power down low.
EDIT: Nevermind...I see that you're turbo so the tuning part doesn't matter. Is your uberdata tuned?

No adjustable cam gear, but its on the correct teeth for a z6 head/y8 block.
And ignition timing is on 18BTDC, according to the marks on the lower timing belt cover.

Whoever did his timing sucks.

The timing was off in the first place because it was late sunday night, and I had to get home fast because of school the next day, so I had to finish my swap fast. I guess the mix of being sleepy, tired, and in a rush caused me to set my timing wrong.
Its all fixed now, at 18 BTDC and cam timing lines match up. So I donnoe what it can be? My friend's stock vx keeps up with me His compression numbers are around 200 , if that makes any difference. Anyone know what else it can be?

Its running N/A at the moment due to the fact that I don't want to put on the turbo until my car is running perfectly N/A.

Sucky driver can cause your car to seem slower then it is.
Did you guys do the compression test on the same compression tester? Go to some local shop and get a leakdown test done.

I've driven his car ( stock vx) and it feels stronger. So its not the driver Brian.
Yea, same compression tester.

Re: What are your compression numbers with a z6 head on y8 block? (xtremeazian)
Like the other's said, 170 is a pretty decent number, please keep in mind, you ahve a y8 block, it has a bigger piston to deck clearence then a d16z6 which has none AND you using a z6 head which yields lower compression due to the bigger CC head. The number was posted by LuserKid and 9.2 is pretty low in terms of a performance NA car. Do you think your expecting too much out of a low compression motor?
Good luck.
and try putting it to 16 or 14 BTC and see if it helps you sluggish low end.

Retard it, its already at 18BTDC, 16 degrees is stock for a Z6 and 12 degrees is stock for Y8.
I would suggestion retarding it to 16 degrees to see if it helps the sluggish feeling.

Re: What are your compression numbers with a z6 head on y8 block? (xtremeazian)
ot but deals with compression numbers. i just checked out a d16z6 today, i did a compression test with wot, it came out 150-150-150-150. The temperature outside was 45 degree, we let the engine warm for like 5 minutes. Would the numbers be higher if the temperature was in the 70s-80s degrees? thanks

If the engine is warm it gives you better numbers but often times (the standard norm or so i was taught) compression test is done when engine is cold and throttle is open all the way.
But when intake air temperture is cold, the air is denser; however, it most likely will not affect your compression test numbers at all.
