what year gsr prop. valve to use?
i recently did a rear disc swap using 98 gsr rear disc brakes and wanted to know what year prop. valve to use. i am about to install the gsr 15/16 master cylinder with the gsr brake booster but i am unsure of which prop. valve to use. some guy here locally has one off of a 96 gsr w/abs but he said its in 2 different pieces. he said 4 lines go into one slim valve and the other 2 lines go into another valve. thats where i get confused ??? can anyone verify if this is the one to use? thanks, Sal

If you dont have abs, then dont try and use a
abs proportioning valve. You need a non abs
model, and make sure you read the stap with
your own eyes. Many people just assume if it
was 4 wheel disc its 40-40, but many times it
isnt.
The prop valve is put together with a tamper proof
torx bit, that also screws it to the bracket. The
stamp will be on one of the flat shiney surfaces
of the valve.
The non-abs valves have 6 inputs for lines.
The abs model does some weird stuff when
it runs to that big abs unit.

What specific number are you looking for? I had thought the stamping did not necessarily designate the brake bias. (This may only apply to non-Si and Si Civics?)

I have never heard that before.
Seems logical to me that if honda put 30-30 on one, that it wouldnt be called
a 40-40 to everyone else.
I really could care less what it says on it, as long as it came from somthing
with 4 wheel discs, but I dont know a whole lot about them, especially
the inner workings of the valves. I think I may just take one appart and take
some pictures, if I ever get my camera back.

It looks like this. Sorry for the blurry pic. You need one from a 94-95 RS.
I believe the part number is 46210-ST7-003. Item #5. Make sure its for an RS without ABS! VERY IMPORTANT!

No, my mistake I was thinking 99-00 Civics, the Si's and EX's prop. valves look identical, and they don't have 4040 stamped on them, but instead some seemingly random ID numbers. Anyway, these are completely different from the one pictured.
