Re: what would cause this (EX2SI)
well the car spits rich wettish black smoke upon startup and idles a little ruff. my iavc is screwed all the way down < previous owner. would that make it run in warm up mode.
the car is a well done swap cause me and him did it about 3 years ago. it just started doing this after i adjusted the idle screw on the throttlebody to bring the idle up a little.
now it just runs rich and acts a fool when i step on it

Re: what would cause this (3 Dough)
its a chipped p28 with oem prelude injectors and resistor box.
a. bad tps sensor<could be sending the wrong voltage causing bad fuel to air ratio?
b. bad distributer< but car runs fine and idles fine once warm
c. jumped a tooth or two < would that cause such bad aceleration
d. i need a bigger hammer

Re: what would cause this (Felt.2)
Set TPS to OEM specifications,
Check condition of plugs and replace/regap if needed
Get engine to operating temperature, jump the diagnostic plug underneath glovebox (if you have one) to set base idle and timing. Idle should be about 600-750 with jumper in, make sure your fans are not running while setting idle.
Also while that jumper is still in, check and reset timing if neccesary. Jumper is required for when you clock the distributor so the timing actually changes and the ECU doesn't auto-correct while you are setting it.
You could also try replacing the dizzy cap and rotor if you feel daring.
