what went wrong with swap/harness?
we got the motor in with everything connected. motor is a b16a. car is 93 4dr sedan ex. we had everything in and tried starting the motor. it didnt start but instead and cloud of white smoke came from under the dist. we checked the wires and one wire seems to have started to burn. so what i am asking is what went wrong? i *think* we are using a z6 custom harness. almost the whole thing is ghetto rigged
any ideas to what could have happend???

BING BING BING...I think we have a winnAr!
It all depends on how it was rigged. Extended wires can also fall apart depending on how it was put together. You'll probably need to re-do the entire harness with PROPER tools and specs.

What kind of gauge wire? Did you solder or did you simply ghetto-rig it but twisting the open ends together and placing tape on it. Did you use speaker wire to do the harness (as I've seen in SOO many damn ghetto-rigs). Did you connect all harnesses correctly? Show us your work and we'll see WTF is wrong.

Re: (RedHackBatch)
in my 2000 si swap in a 98 dx, i used a "new" 98 ex wireing harness. this has all the stock plugs u need, all you'll need to do is hard wire vtec and knock sensor, thats like 3 wires, but even if u dont do that, and wait for a shop to do it, the car will still drive. i originally used a si harness but there is differences between the engine and dash harness from a 96-98 and a 99-00, so because of the use of a 98 ex harness, i also used a 98 gsr e.c.u., and my car ran great to 165 wheel horsepower and a 14.7 quarter mile on stock tires.

Dude, go to Home Depot or an electrical store and get like 30ft. of 14ga. wire (any color you want). Get a soldering gun ($10 at Radio Shack) and a coil of Rosin-Core solder $3 (Radio Shack, .050 diameter). Rip apart the harness, get it all out. Get wiring diagrams, PIN outs, etc...and solder everything to spec. If you want to be pro, get some heat shrink tubing and after you're done soldering, shrink the rubber with a heat gun. I always solder, but after that usually tape it very tight and snug. Sometimes even heating the electrical tape and squeezing it tighter so when it cools down, it has a strong grip on the wires and won't come loose from the motor heat.
