what type of gas for stock b16a2
i started putting v-power or premium in my stock b16a2 hatch then i decided to try regular gas.
it sounds and seems to run way worse with regular. do most stock b16a2 take premium?
i dont want to ruin the motor with the wrong gas any pointers would be great. thanks!

Here's what I do...
I mostly run "Top Tier" gas - Shell, Chevron, QT. I run regular, and I mix it with Acetone.
It doesn't take much Acetone. The formula I'm using right now is (0.197 x gallons).
Simple pimple! For instance, let's say I put 10.3 gallons of regular in my tank.
10.3 gallons of regular x 0.197 = 2.03 ounces of Acetone
The only 'bad' part is, you gotta carry Acetone, a graduated beaker, and a pocket calculator around with you.I'm NOT doing this cause I'm a cheap bastard, either. I think regular+Acetone performs better than premium!

I drive my B16A2 500-600 miles a week. Runs great! It's fast (in my HX shell), smooth, and gets 40MPG!

When you add Acetone to your fuel, it allows the injectors to spray the gasoline in finer droplets. They call this "breaking the surface tension". That is, the Acetone breaks the surface tension of the gas molecules and makes it spray and burn more efficiently.
Having used it for quite a while, I can also tell you that it increases the octane - or at least it mimics an increase in the octane. So, you don't get any knocking and pinging, etc.
In other words, adding Acetone makes the gas spray better, plus it helps prevent detonation, just like premium.
Many ppl have reported HUGE gas mileage increases using Acetone in their domestic vehicles. I've never seen that with my B16A2 - but B16A2s are one of the most efficient motors ever made - the first production engine to make 100/HP per liter, if I'm not mistaken.
I quit adding Acetone to my gas, a few months ago (I ran out of Acetone actually) and after a couple of tanks, my mileage dropped from 40-41 MPG to 37-38 MPG. Plus, it was running kinda schizo on regular. When I started running Acetone again, my mileage went back up to 40-ish, and the smoothness returned.
Anyway, that's about the size of it...

Re: what type of gas for stock b16a2
LoL!
I always feel self-conscious when I do this. I use the top of the gas pump for a (lab) table when I measure it - and I always spill it. Acetone doesn't like to pour (because the molecules don't stick together, i.e. no surface tension). It just gushes out, no matter how careful you are.
I'm always expecting someone to ask me what the hell I'm doing, but they never do.
There's something about a lowered Vic that makes ppl stay away from you, even if it looks like you're building a bomb...

Re: what type of gas for stock b16a2
if you fill half your tank with Shell V-Power gas, and the other half with Chevron with Techron you will have V-TEC gas!!!

A 16 ounce bottle of polish remover will last you for a couple of months - but 100% Acetone is always the most expensive nail polish remover on the shelf - so you're better of buying it by the gallon.
A pint of Acetone polish remover will run you $2.50-$4.00.
A gallon of 100% Acetone will cost around $16.00-$20.00.
If you think a gallon of Acetone is too much, I might mention that it works great for cleaning M/C carbs (especially carbs that are gummed up with 2-stroke oil).
LoL!
Acetone works great for all sorts of stuff...

Yep, it's great!
Your oil stays cleaner because less raw fuel gets past the rings.
The exhaust system stays cleaner too - a light gray color - because the gas burns more completely.
There is no knocking or pinging...
You'll have to take my word for the smoothness and powerband, but...
Here's my fuel log for the last year: http://ecomodder.com/forum/em-fuel-l...vehicleid=1291
LoL! Who the hell would lie about gas mileage, you know?
And... this is ALL with regular gas (mixed with a little Acetone)...

Re: what type of gas for stock b16a2
could you mix the acetone with prenium fuel? and maybe get even higher gas mileage while keeping performance and reliability? sounds pretty cool

Re: what type of gas for stock b16a2
The thing is, this sounds easier than it is!
The only (consistent) way I know of doing it right is to use a graduated beaker and a calculator. If you aren't prepared to do this, forget about it!
Put another way... I'm running 0.00075% Acetone right now - and I just did a short fill. I got 42+ MPG with no knocking on regular gas. Before that, I was using 0.0015% Acetone. It ran smoother, but got less mileage. The price of gas is rising, so I'm more worried about mileage (right now) than smoothness... and less Acetone gives me better mileage and less smoothness - such is the nature of regular gas.
I *think* the biggest reason ppl fail with Acetone is because they're too lazy to measure it correctly - and a little Acetone goes a long way! Too much, or too little and your screwed - and we're talking about a faction of an ounce per tank.
Anyway, use the formula above and you should be okay. Dump it in straight from a nail polish remover bottle (without measuring it correctly) and you'll be disappointed with the results.
BTW, none of this is rocket science! You can get a gallon of Acetone in the paint department @ Walmart - the graduated beaker is in housewares - and the calculators are in office/school supplies section...

Re: what type of gas for stock b16a2
Ok, 1.5 ounces per 10 gallons on a d16z6 also correct? And what if im not sure how many gallons of gas is in my car and i put 8 or 9 gallons of gas into it guessing i have 1 or 2 gallons in the tank. and i put 1.5 ounces of acetone in and the mixture goes wrong? whats the worse that can happen?

Lol, you guys are talking about Acetone and fuel for a B16A2. What happens if you use it on a CX engine. Or what about for hybrids ? Hah. Wonder how much MPG you will have. Hah.
