what are these littlel metal cylinders?
we took a jg d16z6 head in to be hot tanked and those fell out. the head was the casting, valves, rocker arms and caps...no sensors, no vtec solenoid on it, no cam.
the actual size is very close to the size of a brand new eraser on a #2 pencil....
any ideas? i really dont want to tear down another had to find them....
thanks

they're called dowel pins i think. they fell out when i pulled my head too. they go on the bottom, where it mates with the block...not really sure what its purpose is, but im sure its pretty important.
**Edit**
i read that it helps with alignment...

i dont believe those are dowel pins (dowels are hollow). these look like the things that go on the rocker arms... i have no way of describing nor do i remember EXACTLY where they went, but they look like rocker arm pieces.... gotta find a pic to show the location...

VTEC PISTONS!!! Don't loose them!!!! They go in your rocker arms and slipped out when you took them assembly off and hte rockers were allowed to shift.
You loose those, you have to buy a whole new 100 dollar rocker assembly!

Yes those peiecs are part of the lost mation assembly.
They hold the VTEC Rocker arm assembly to the other Two intake rockers. ( on a D-Series.)

those are not part of the LMAs, the LMAs are one piece that sit under the mid rocker arm, its just a cylinder with a spring in it to keep pressure on the mid rocker arm and to keep them from flying up and down when they aren't locked to the outer rocker arms.
