i think i might have messed up the timing when i replaced the cams. and now it idel and sounds like a disel engine. cranking sound and ticking sounds. so i am just wondering what are the symptons when timing is off.

sounds like just described about half of them.

Poor idle, Sound like its missing(cause its off a tooth), wont come off idle, The ticking is prob the valves out of adjustment. put it back in time

Well did you double check the belt timing?

Also, did check the dizzy timing again?

Also, how aggressive are the cams you put in there? Too aggressive and you'll start to pick up overlay - at stock compression ratio that'll kill ya.

Symptoms when timing is off:
- Car runs like ****, often is described as sounding like a subbie.
- Bad power or not enough
- Bent valves creating not power

So on and so forth...

EDIT:
Make sure your timing belt is 100% - it could be off by one tooth which would cause what you're describing.

If you're positive the t-belt is on 100%, and you checked the distributor with a timing light and it's perfectly aligned - then I wouldn't worry about it - it could be sounding different depending on how aggressive the cams were.

i only put in a oem ITR intake cam.

u can also check your vaccum, i believe if it is somewhere around 10in. HG ur off time, someone correct or verify
