Re: (big-cat)
You can pretty much turbo a stock engine. You could just slap on the turbo kit and be fine as long as you run 6-9 psi on your stock motor. If you have the money and want to stay with the d, I'd say build the block with forged internals, and maybe do a head swap...

Re: (SovXietday)
if there any any problems at all with the motor currently boosting it will only make those problems worse. I would suggest doing a full tune-up regapping the plugs ect. ect. Ohh and make sure you get a good engine management otherwise you can kiss reliability goodbye and your motor.

Re: (EGmikeH22)
first start out with a compression and leakdown test and make sure everythings good
If no stop now lol. If yes replace clutch if you plan to make some power or your old one is weak.
Full tune up if necesary (spark plugs, wires, cap, rotor, timing belt, water pump ect...)
Buy turbo, turbo manifold, charge pipes, BOV, intercooler, wastgate, downpipe, cat, exhaust everything.
if you want convert to obd1 and get tuned or if you are not planning on huge power get an FMU.
OR
just bolt everything on and go till it blows

this might sound dumb but make sure you have all the tools you need to finish the job. When I first put my kit it took longer than needed because i had to keep going to the autoshop to buy the right tools-- plus the right tools will make life a lot easier!!

well first of all things all of you forgot the head gasket. D series motors tend to blow more head gaskets when boosted. Also beofre you even bother with the "tubo" thing there is much more to it than just slapping it on buddy. Even if you slapped it on you still have to keep even closer attetion to maintenance. EI: ESPECIALLY oil changes, they must be at 3K or less. Gotta keep fresh oil feeding through that turbo. Second go here and your questions shall be answered.
