Default What are signs of a bad water pump?

what are signs to look for to tell if you have a bad water pump,any smells??? car is a 97 Ex d16

Leaking and/or overheating.

How many miles on the OEM water pump?

would it sound almost like a can?? car has 140k miles, no leaking as I can see, it smells like something is burning , smells like how a clutch would smell if it was burning, car is a automatic im just describing the sort of smell

Aint that the same sound a loose altenator belt would make, or maybe i have the wrong sound in mind.

nah, just almost like a can... but not like it threw a rod, when I cut the a/c on the noise stops?? then when I cut it off it starts

They usually make a nasty grinding noise.
