i searched google and this site, but could'nt find a confirmed answer,

i got a little motor oil on the timing belt while doing valve adjustment, cause i had the timing belt cover off, its a new timing belt, and just a little oil got on it,

most people said to use a little soap & water, or some said use brake cleaner ?

anyone know whats safe to use for sure ? cause i want to prevent this new timing belt from any damage.

simple green, or household degreaser .
Dawn soap would be fine too
Don't want to use anything that would degrade the rubber.

i would probably feel better just using something like dawn soap and water, especially since its only a little oil that got on it,

for several years i used to have my timing belt cover left off, cause it did'nt clear to be able to close my hood, since i have a dohc zc motor, but i was stupid for not doing something about it cause now i know that leaving the timing belt exposed with no cover on can get things on it like oil or water or stuff that splashes up in the engine bay, leading to a shorter life of the timing belt, causing it to snap earlier.

later i cut out a section of the sound deadening material on the underside of the hood and was able to make the hood close even with the timing belt cover on, but my timing belt snapped on me going 60mph on the highway but luckily had no damage to my engine, but i knew i was waiting way too long to replace it when i should of, but i'm sure having that cover off for as long as i did caused it to snap earlier.

Dish soap is your best friend when cleaning up oil. It will even pull it out of the driveway.

Never spray brake cleaner anywhere on, near, or around anything rubber, especially your timing belt, unless you enjoy the idea of dry rot. It's not the brake cleaner itself - it's the chemicals necessary to make it come out of an aerosol can. Anything in an aerosol can belongs no where near tires, belts, hoses, vacuum lines, gaskets, seals, o-rings...you get the point.
