Default What is a Ricer???

I'm new to the Honda tuner world. I'm putting some cash into my civic
and don't wanna "rice it" or be called a "ricer". So what is the definition
of a ricer??

the definition of rice has gotten out of term in the coming years...

it used to be:

someone who makes their car "appear" faster than it is, AKA, body kits, spoilers, neons and leds. those are things you usually see on show cars, but an r34 skyline can have a body kit and huge spoiler and never be rice.

Now its gotten to the point where anything that ISNT JDM is considered rice

some people on here tell me that adding a honda logo on my car is even rice nowadays

"Ricing" a vehicle is meant to emulate the aesthetic work of automotive car tuning companies who modify more than just appearance, and to give an appearance of greater ability than the car actually has. Ricing is generally looked down upon amongst people who perform engine tuning, suspension tuning, and other performance racing modifications.

The usage is frequently disputed. Some view any car with the external appearance of a performance compact, particularly with aggressive aftermarket modifications as "riced," while others use the term only for cars with the external appearance of performance modifications but lacking the internal modifications to give the real performance (perhaps using "tuner" for cars with actual performance modifications).

* Aerodynamic-seeming or creatively-designed body kits, often flimsy, and thin.

* Wings and spoilers that are unusually large.

* Non-functional hood scoops and roof scoops.

* Scissor doors (open similarly to those of a Lamborghini)

* Bright paint or interior, frequently in contrasting colors.

* Decals and stickers for parts that have not even be installed on the car

* Vinyling made to look like carbon fiber.

* Original badging removed and/or replaced with those from other higher-performance vehicles or JDM factory racing developments such as Mugen, TRD, or Nismo while the car may or may not have the branded parts installed.

* Imitation parts being represented as real parts. (i.e. fake Mugen shift **** being represented as a real one)

* A large, loud, free-flowing exhaust pipe with a large cylindrical resonator at the rear of the car, known as a "fart cannon", "fart can" or "coffee can." merely stuck on the end of a standard diameter exhaust system.

* Silver, blue, or purple reflective tint of all or the bottom half of the windows which is often self installed.

* Decorative neon and LED lighting in addition to the regular head/tail lamps and brake/turn signals, such as lighted windshield washer nozzles and tire valve caps, underbody neon lighting ("hover lights")

* Altezza-style lights or "Altezzas" (equally popular and known as "Lexus" lights in Europe), which have the colored light sources and reflective bodies contained within chrome housings and clear lenses

* Improper Badging ,commonly called an "Identity Crisis", some cars have Type R or Si exterior and/or interior badges on Honda and Acura cars that are not Type R or Si models; sometimes on cars that are not even Honda or Acura manufacture. Additionally, many Nissan owners will put badges from the Nissan Skyline GT-R on their car, though they may not share anything in common with the Skyline except for the manufacturer. VTEC, VVT-i or VVTL exterior badging on cars not equipped with variable valve timing technology

I'm at the point where I believe that ANY modification to a street vehicle is rice (with few exceptions ie stereo, alarm etc). If you're doing it to get attention, then you're a ricer. It wont get you laid. It will only get you jacked. If you're making your street car faster; whether or not you street-race, you're a ricer. Your car is to get you to Albertsons and back.

Your car doesn't determine who you are or what you are. It doesn't make up for your short comings. It's just a car and you're just you.

JDM crap is all rice. So ****ing gay... people get hard-ons if their fuse box is all in Japanese characters. Stupid, man. Just move to Japan and whack off already.

Ricers have nearly driven me away from Hondas/Acuras which are some of the best cars in the world especially for how cheap they are and how easy they are to work on vs German cars.

On the other hand a dedicated race car built by people that know what they're doing is pretty ****ing rad.

This is where it gets fuzzy. If making your car faster through engine tuning, power adders, etc. and improving handling for a car that never sees the track, then whats the point of even buying a "sports car" when the majority of people wont go to a track either?

My car has some suspension work and minor exterior modification themed after the CTR. So why would that be considered rice when an EVO has much more aggressive treatments?

To me rice is just pointless, cheap parts slapped onto a car. Cars that have legitimate upgrades to increase performance are not rice.

Depends who you are talking to. Import crowd, then more so all show no go. Domestic crowd. You drive an import you are ricer period. So just do what you want to do to your car.

a ricer is anything added to the car that does not make the car faster or perform better, such as body kit, tinted windows, etc.

tinted windows? so i guess my 35% in the back is rice now. thats funny. better remove my thin jdm side moldings too.
I could've sworn i felt a power difference once i got em on, didn't I ?

it is also funny that all of these honda-heads are arguing about what is rice. to the hardcore american muscle heads... all our hondas, tastefully modified or not, rice is the first word that comes to mind.

rice is whatever you wanna call it. I say build your car however you think looks best to you. you can ask tech questions but honestly everything else doesnt matter. sleepers win races all the time, its under the hood that you must make sure is done right.

For me, rice consists of poorly constructed aftermarket parts such as lights that fog in a year, body kits that fit poorly with bad gaps, and interior parts that serve no purpose but to fall apart making the owner look bad when he has to fix that led that came unglued.

udechukwu's right when he says that to all domestic ppl, any honda that has any visible mods, from window tint to exhaust is rice, trust me, before i got my civic for my second car i daily drove my mustang around and i would laugh at every honda i saw cuz i knew i could leave em sit. Now that i drive my civic every day i have a whole new respect and all i can say is do whatever you want to ur car, the only person's definition of what is ricer or not is yours and your opinion is the only one that should matter.
