what is the purpose of a tophat on a suspension?
i have a friend selling a set of skunk2 proseries coilovers but he wants to keep the tophats? why.........soundls like something that should stay there but not sure a little insight would be appreciated

I think the top-hat is literally like a hat thats on top of the springs, i took some skunk2 coil overs of my car and they didnt have s2 top-hats, it was just the springs and perch's, so i dont think you need them. He may have needed them because of his strut setup.

You can use your stock tophats with no problem.
I would suggest buying some Ground Control extended tophats to increase the travel of those Skunk2s.

Extended top hats increase shock travel. You can buy them from ground control. Your friend should buy the ground control ones, and sell you the sk2 ones with the coilovers.
