Default What problems can a map sensor cause?

My car hasn't been acting right. I was having a problem with the idle and a backfirers. I went and changed the timing belt, had the valves adjusted, changed the fuel filter, and the primary 02 sensor. Any ideas? Could the map sensor cause these problems?

if your timing is correct

Try to borrow one off of someone with the same car as you (a friend, a family member, a fellow Ht member, etc.) A MAP sensor can cause your car to run like crap, but most likely it will throw a CEL before it does.

In my 91 Civic w/ ZC my car was idling like **** & would random;y stall for about a week & I couldn't figure it out. Then one day while cruising on the highway at about 70 the car died & threw a CEL for teh MAP sensor. I found a used one for $20 & viola problem solved. So, the point to this is: the MAP sensor can affect the car's performance w/o a CEL being triggered.

There might be irregular voltage going to the MAP sensor. I had this problem and had an idle surge from 500-900. It ended up being the ECU. Now she holds steady at 700.
