what is the problem?
So I have a B16A2 in my 93 del sol, i have the b16 ECU and everything. Its always been sorta sluggish, so i did a compression test and a leakage test in each cylinder. My compression was at about 150 for all the cylinders, but with only 4-5% leakage. So i know its not my rings and its not my valves. When performing a wet test the compression did go up about 20-30 psi. However I am missing both the knock sensor and the O2 sensor. Would the knock sensor be screwing things up that badly? Do I need a new head gasket maybe? I know the O2 is making me run rich but wouldnt hurt my power that much. Any ideas on what the problem is or what i should do would be great thanks.

well dude.. im pretty sure it is in that sluggish mode when something needs to be replaced/fixed/installed. I would first get that stuff put in (o2 sensor, knock sensor) because the knock sensor might actually be able to trigger it to go into that mode. anybody else?

my theory is that since the knock sensor is missing completely, the ECU thinks there Is a knock so its retarding my spark to prevent detonation. Not sure if that's how it works though

your compression is still kind of low and also u meant p30 ecu right ? if know sensor is missing .CEL will come on and the car will idel a bit weird. not too much.just a bit. i would say u either bypass knock sensor or get a chipped ecu to get rid of knock sensor detecting.

not having a knock sensor will retard ur timing and it really screws with stuff and running rich will slowly fowl out ur plugs and getting a chiped ecu is not a bad idea i get mine from this guy J-K-tuning.com

thanks appreciate it, but I would still like to bypass the KS to see if that is the problem. How do I do that? Also would the KS be affecting my compression?

Re: what is the problem? (sick93sol)
getting a chipped ecu will bypass it not sure what program will do that just ask the john kerr from J-K-tuning.com and he'll set u up with the rite base map program. i dunno if ur familiar with uberdata? and the knock wont have anything to do with compression on the engine. i read u did a wet test and it did shoot up in compression usually means bad piston rings (where did u get ur motor from?) check ur plugs too. check to c if the electrode is covered in oil if so u mite have bad valve seals but since u did the wet test and the compression did go up its more then likely your piston rings
