Default What to power my EJ1 with?

I'm looking to get some decent speed at a reasonable price. This is a daily driver and I plan on keeping the car for the next few years. Also I live in SoCal and will be moving to Washington within the next year. I need to be able to smog this.

keep whatever is in there now and wait til you get to Washington before you swap... Much less hassle that way... Washington as far as I know is a clean air state, meaning no stringent emissions testing like in CA...

i agree...CA sucks...im currently residing in pomona but i'm from Santa barbara and man ventura is swarming with cops...save your money and build your suspension/interior/exterior. Once you get to Washington either boost the D or go gsr....

Actually Washington Adopted Cali's emissions laws and will begin enforcing it in 2009. So yea.

I wish I new what every engine was like from personal experience but I don't. I will most likely go with the GSR or Turbo D.

A compressed mixture of gasoline and oxygen ignited by means of electrical discharge.

That usually powers a car nicely ....

Is that legal out there? Have you heard about them getting stricter on emissions?

If you go with the Turbo-D you can buy a greddy kit minus the I/C for 1500 and its street legal (pretty sure it covers WA). I had a GSR swap in my EJ1 a while ago and loved every minute of it. Im stock now and have also been thinking about an LS swap for DD or even a d16z6-t for DD. If you have the money you will not be let down with the GSR. Be sure to get it BAR'D here though to save you a lot of hassle. Good luck with your choice.

Well if the cops out there are anything like the ones out here, I would like to avoid the whole situation. I hate driving around worrying about a cop pulling me over and popping the hood (...why I sold my last WRX).

If you do a search on here you can get all the info you need on how to BAR a B18c(GSR) in your EJ1... once you have that sticker they can't do **** really. And with Greddy they give you a sticker I believe saying its "Street Legal"

nah, they don't make you pop your hoods..at least not yet..haha

basically if you got full body kit, with a big canister, with flashy 18" rims, then you'll be more visible to the cops..

but if you're like me, and like to keep a low profile (95 ej1 black, i/c painted black, 1.5" drop, black magnaflow exhaust) then cops wont even give a damn about you..

I know how to get it BAR'd. Really not that much involved. We have a local ref that can do it.

Yea my car isn't really that flashy. 15's, soon to be satin black, HID's, front lip and a 2 inch drop. NOTHING flashy.

I think I might go with the Turbo D. My friend runs Motorvation here in Ventura and does amazing SOHC turbo setups. Will be less money than the GSR. This will most likely be a temp. thing until I get a little more into the car. In the next couple years I will swap something in and sell the turbo/motor setup.

Don't get all bitter. I from experience know that I don't like the way that a H22 feels in a civic.
