Default What pistons for my b18c1????

I have a 95 dx coupe with a 95 gsr swap, just intake and exhaust.
I plan on buying a jdm 4-1 header a high flow cat and hope fully some custom mandrel bent piping with a good muffler. I plan on doing all of this within the next month. My piston rings are shot so i want to replace them, i was also thinking of while i got it cracked open why not get some cheap, higher comp pistons.
I was thinking of just getting the USDM type r, just cause they are only like 150 on ebay, and i already have rings. Do you think i should do that? I know its not a big bump in compression, but its a little power. What other pistons could i get for a decent price that are stock bore and will fit my stock gsr rods?

B16 pistons would be my suggestion, either the PR3 or P30 would be a little cheaper if you could find a used set. Either of the B16 pistons will raise your compression higher than if you were to use the USDM - R pistons.

Yea, USDM B16 pistons will raise your comprssion a bit. Good thing about them, they're easier to find opposed do Type R pistons, cheaper, and I think they raise compression higher than USDM Type R pistons.

I cant find the b16b pistons for a decent price, so USDM b16a2 pistons will yield a higher comp than USDM b18c5 pistons?

When i just did the comp calculator on here at http://www.c-speedracing.com/howto/c...c/compcalc.php
I did stock b18c block, head, and head gasket and with usdm b16a pistons it comes out to
11.374456157496323:1
so 11.3:1 right?
With jdm b16 pistons
11.59960326572453:1
so 11.5:1
JDM b16b
12.042422511586593
so 12:1
USDM type r
10.836228641070214
so 10.8:1

SO it looks like usdm or jdm b16 is the best bang for the buck if i can find them, thats if i dotn get b16b.
All of these fit on my stock rods right?

I can only find .25 overbored CTR pistons on ebay, i want the stock bore, can anyone hook me up with a good price? Thanks

i'd get the CTR oversized pistons with rings...slightly higher compression than the ITR ones. someone correct me if i'm mistaken here...

No need for oversized pistons because you won't be touching the bore (im assuming motor does not need to be honed etc.) so just regular CTR pistons with new rings would be my choice. Just incase you decide to slap on some high lift cams, the extra compression the CTR pistons will give you will come in handy.

Yeah im going to get "Willis" from here on hondatech to do the install. Just a light hone and new rings and i should be fine. I have the rings, now i just need to PISTONS! My motor has i think 79k...

whats with you guyz and TYPE R pistons, you can get crower pistons that are stronger and cost the same or even less than Type R pistons look up crower they make import **** too not just domestic's , crower makes kick *** parts for all motor setups (im geussing your going all motor cause high comp pistons). look for after-market stuff not stock JDM B parts

CTR will fit and work on your stock block.
and will give you the best bang for the buck.
I believe they offer the highest compression ratio.

But i heard that high compression ratio kills motor life.
Is that true.

only if you dont know what your doing (set-up wise), if you go all motor your gonna have high compression so you have to reenforce most of your engine to ensure you wont blow it up

If your not going to answer my question or give insightful info get out of my thread.

1. Not going for a highly built motor, so i dont need forged pistons
2. Crower doesnt make pistons, unless they own JE, srp, or CP. Ive never heard of anyone using crower pistons. I didnt think they existed.
3. aftermarket respectable forged pistons vs ctr....or ITR.
Aftermarket...................ITR
450 or so 150 or so.

You dont have to reinforce the engine for 11:1 or even 12:1, just upgrade your fuel and tune it and your fine.

does anybody know the highest compression you can safely run on pump gas with no pinging? is 12.1:1 too high? what about 12.3:1?

i would like to know this too?
Also does High compression kill your engine if you use it has a daily driver. (75) comute daily. Mostly traffic.

u can always tune ur car to run 91 all day long. keep in mind u aint going to make as much power as say tune it on 100, but itll work on 91.

if you are replacing your pistons because the RINGS are shot, wont you want to HONE your cylinder walls? thus requiring a 0.25 oversize piston? not to sound like an ***, but I hope you think this thru before you throw money down on new pistons. Look into a honing job, should only be $20-$35 per cylinder and this will help your new rings seat as perfectly as they should be seated! seriously.

my vote is not for CTR pistons because they are tough for some kids to tune right, so you might want to get the jdm b16 or jdm itr pistons in 0.25 oversize.

good luck

I would want to hone them but that doesnt require over sized psitons. Overboring the cylinders do require oversized pistons. Just a light hone with new rings will make it seal up real nice unless my cylinder walls are damaged, thus requiring an overbore. A light hone will be fine.

I dont even HAVE to replace thsi pistons but since its cracked open why not buy 180 honda pistons and get some power out of it, dont you have having to spend money on your car for repairs that wont make your car faster? I know i do thats why i getting higher comp pistons. "Willis" here on h-t will be doing this for me prob before school is out.
