When i did a friends i discharged it. But make sure its in a open area or youll get high as ****. Then i took off the compressor, then the piece that looks like the radiator and then everything else. But ones its discharge take it out how you wish.

if you have that tool to take out stems from tires you could use that to just pull the stem out. You could also get a flat head and just hold it down. You might get some yellow spray that feels weird but dont worry about it just clean it off and finish it up.

yeah just take a screwdriver and press the valve down. it takes a while, smells like ****, and is cold. make sure your face is far away, and you completely drain the system. i thought i did, but there was still some left in there, and it went all over my hand when i popped the line off.
after you drain it, it's easiest to remove all the lines, then the condensor, the beer can looking thing by the drivers side headlight, and finally the compressor. you can also take the ac fuses and relays out from the box. but leave the bracket holding the compressor to the block, it doubles as a torque mount for your engine.
and the compressor is not a bitch to get to if you take the condensor and ps out first. is it bad for the environment? probably. do i really care?

Re: (Average Al)
the refrigerant in your a/c system is bad for the environment, be it the old r-12 or the new r-134a. Any competent garage will take it all out of your car for a modest fee, no mess, no getting high, no worries about getting nailed with some big stupid fine for letting that sh*t out. Doesn't take very long either. Jim.

right way: bring your car to an independent shop or anyone with an a/c evacuator or recycler. you should definatly find someone to do it for free considering your practically handing them money by giving them your r-134a.
wrong way: for someone w/o a valve core remover to take the core out of the recharge stem, just loosen any of the a/c connections. the easiest is probably either of the two connections at the a/c compressor, but watch out. dont inhale or let any of this touch your skin. dont let anyone see you do this because it is illegal. it will also put a larger hole in the o-zone due to the clorofloro carbons that r-134a consists of. even though r-12 is worse, r-134a is still bad.
