Default what octane for d16y8

I searched or at least i think i searched. I cant get anything but searched failed so maybe i dont know how to use it. Anyway i have owned a 99 gsr and a 2000 si both which needed 91 or higher. My ? is my 92 civic hatch has a d16y8 swap and im not sure if premium fuel is needed. I know the compression isnt that high but almost everyone that i have talked to says that all vtec engines require 91 or higher. Thanks in advance.

Well... on the gs-r gauge cluster it does say "Premium Unleaded Fuel Only"

I believe that you can run manby production cars on regular. I used to have a Mitusbishi 3000gt which said the same thing on the cluster and on the gas tank and i always filled it with regular. My friend has a $70,000 lexus LS430 and it is the same situation with him. His cluster says that as well and he puts regular

why do you think the engineers decided to put 'Premium unleaded fuel only' on certain cars?

I'm sure you might not feel/see any short term effects, but I wonder about long term effects..who knows..?

I think it's funny when I see people at the gas station with expensive Lexus' putting in the 'cheapest' gas...whether it makes a difference or not - that's debatable..but i just find it funny..they're all about 'having an expensive car'..but prolly don't know/care much about it.

Us Honda guys and and car enthusiast with cheaper cars take better care than the next schmoe with a $80k bimmer..ha

btw, I use 87 on my 92 vx (d15z1)..i used to use 89 the first three years i had it..but switched to 87 the past 2.5 or so years i've had it..no difference..same awesome MPG. I'll have to use 91+ plus octane booster on my SW20..boo ya
