Default what manual tranny will fit a 1998 civic..?

Hey, just wondering what will interchange, not looking to "trick it out", just replace the factory broke one. will a 1990 fit? it matches right up to the block but will it work, the 1998 is an LX.. non-VTec i think. Thanks

1990 tranny wont work because its a cable tranny and your civic is a hydrolic tranny, any d series tranny from 92-00 should work for your car

you need S40 tranny from 96-00, at least S20 from 92-95.

92-00 will work, since they're all hydraulic and for D series.

yup all 92-00 single cam/d-series HYDRO transmission will fit in your car.
but im not sure if the 92-95 civic axles are the same with the 96-00 civic axles.

Axles are the same. Trans will bolt up and work just fine.

92-00 civic D series axles and transmissions are 200% interchangable. That's 100% more than 100%.

If you get a 92-95 trans, just take the brackets and stuff off your 96-00 trans so that the clutch lines will have their brackets. EEEEEEEEEEEVERYthing else is the same.

The 88-91 will work as well...but you'd have to get an expensive hydro to cable converter.

That's all you need. 1st on that car probably goes up to like 40 or 45. Why do you want to go faster? Slow down, you maniac.

Reverse is nice. There's starving kids in 3rd world countries that can't even walk backwards.

I'd say leave it. Stop living a life of decadence.

Seriously, though....I used to drive around in 1st gear on main roads with beaters all the time.

uh... the 90 has to be hydraulic.. if not, u have to go on a mission converting it to hydraulic with one of them fancy kits. if its auto... u need pedals, pumps, and a whola lotta ****.

Na, its a manual, its just bad, i havent checked it out yet i bought the car broke, and its missing all gears except 1st and reverse.. it would be nice if it was a simple fix.. anyway i will be putting back a manual, just wanting to know what my interchange options were, i think this 98 is hydraulic, but i do know the 90 is cable... i think ill try to find a 92 and up, i dont really want to 'convert' it.

Does anybody know where i can find a schematic for my tranny? 1st and reverse work just fine, but no 2nd, third, fourth or fifth.. the tranny doesnt clank or anything.. i think its just a shift fork problem.

Private sale will be a lot cheaper. DX trannys run anywhere from $50 to $150 used private sale most of the time. Check craigslist.

So will a '92 to '95 DX/LX be a close gear match for my '98 LX?
