Default What makes this happen?

Opened my engine and found this.......... what the hell made this happen???

The valves are still in good shape under all the crap thats like built up on them... but what cause all the deposits to form on the valves?

2000 B16 swap in a 94 civic..... a/f ratio maybe?

What does it mean wiht the spark plug tips are white like that??? Is that another indentfacation of what might have been worng?

I was running a chipped ecu by AGEngenering.... it pulled very stong all the time and never had any problems that I noticed.....very small amount of black smoke when I would really get on it, but nothing that seen like there was something wrong.

I've been told that the white build up is also a problem in engines that burn oil. I know that from my collection of heads off of friends cars, that i could draw that conclusion. My y8 motor burned a ton of oil, i pulled it before i broke it, and when i took the head off, i saw similair results. when i asked what caused this, i got oil as an answer. But you say you had black smoke, which is more in line with running rich, so i don't know.

As for spark plugs, i've been told its hard to read them, and i personally think that the white build up is more of the same sediment on the valves. If you read in books, what your suppose to look for is really small metal *****, kinda like splatter welds, and so on.

I 3rd that. What brand and octane gas do you use? That's something else I'd look at. Some people say fuel doesn't matter, but it's only Exxon or Mobil for me at no lower than 89 octane.

Maybe the previous owner was running rich and thats where the deposits came from, then you put in the chipped ecu and started running lean which caused the plugs to be white? I dunno just throwing out my thoughts.

I run Mobil 93 Oct. all the time.

Burnt a little oil..... like 1 qt. a month.... daily driven.

I pulled it apart b/c I needed something to do over the winter and I am going to go FI/Nitros, but I want to find out what this befor I do anyhting else.

I have this thread also. It explains the reason for all of this:
