seriously.
Been trying to find a del sol S lately but came across an SI for cheap.. 120lbs heavier than the the S
I know - eg hatch is the lightest but they are also the most stolen, plus i like 2-seaters.
What makes these cars so heavy for what they are? geez.
Are there some heavy components that could go in these cars that wouldn't sacrifice ride quality? ( i would remove ac/ps instantly.. so what else )

i own a 94 sol S picked it up for 1200$ with 104k miles on it.. since then ive pulled P/S A/C removed all the sound deading under the carpets and pulled the heater motor behind the dash along with all the lines for everything.. i havent got to weigh mine but ide say its saved ALOT of weight.. i think ill take it down to the scale tomorow and get some numbers on weight. there fun cars to own and drive no matter the weight.. they slide around fairly well too.. so if its right price get it if you want a sol

Yeah projekt. I'd love to see how much weight your car's lost.
Looks like i can get the '93 si for about $1000.
Oh and the EG hatch theft thing: i see people reporting them as stolen on H-T *constantly*. When i was shopping around for an EG Hatch, the ads i saw mostly were for theft recovery / 'shady title issues'.. and when i found an EG Hatch that was posted for sale ( like on craigslist ), it would get sold within a day, often times less.. seems like they're high in demand.
Anyways yeah del sols are heavy.. wtf.
Extra frame strength around the targa top or what?
In comparison: si hatchback is 70 pounds lighter.
Mazda miata of that year is ~ 2180lbs with the 1.8 engine.
I'd own a miata but their best 1.8 puts out 155hp and gets less than 30mpg hwy..
Kinda lame when you could have a del sol with a GSR ~180hp engine that gets ~32mpg hwy.. AND goes head to head with the new 2.0l miatas

High demand and cheap are two different things. Certainly a popular car, no doubt, but if the road was littered with EM1s at $1500 a pop, how well would the EG sell?
