Default what low-cost tires and rims for '96 Civic DX

My significant other's 1996 Honda Civic DX Coupe has 4 old tires and three bent wheels, it's still equipped with the original 175/70-R13 82T M/S tires.

Since she needs replacement wheels anyways, I'm trying to get bigger wheels that will fit with no modifications. I know lots about American cars but squat about Hondas i.e. bolt patterns, clearance of disc brakes etc.

This is a communter and we're broke, so no flashy wheels are required i.e. steel wheels with plastic covers are just fine. I note that the '96 Honda Civic EX Coupe came with 185/65-14 tires, would these wheels/tires fit the Civic DX? Is there are factory 15 inch wheel available?

Any other suggestions re: upsizing the wheel/tire combo with cheap oem-style wheels? Any suggestions of where to purchase these items online? Any relevant factory wheel codes that you can share?

Thanks,

ReallyWildStuff

You can fit a variety of wheels on the Civic. Anywhere from 13"-18" if you really wanted to.

Check out the Wheel/Tire forum FAQ. Alot of your questions will be answered there.

Yes, there are a multitude of 15 inch OEM Honda/Acura wheels that will fit. Anything off of a Civic will work, including the 15 inch alloy 99-00 Civic SI rims. Also, anything off of the 94-00 Integra (with the exception of the ITR) will work. You can go as big as 205/50/15 on the 15 inch rims without rubbing problems. The 96-00 Civic HX had some thin 8 spoke rims similar to Rota Circuit 8s that were very light. You can go with some 195/60/14s for those. All of these rims are the right size, offset and bolt pattern. Typically you look for a 40-42 offset, with a 4x100 bolt pattern.

If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask me personally.

I see those Rota Slips, those are nice, but look like something that someone would want to steal.

We live in Houston and are very interested in not drawing attention to ourselves or our cars i.e. no flashy wheels for this vehicle unfortunately.

No, these is no actual lug pattern on there, but since he mentions a 98-00 Accord, and they are 4 lug, I would venture to say no. The Accords use a 4x114.3 (same as the 1996 ITR, 92-96 Prelude and a handful of other Hondas) and will not fit on your car.

I'd send you my steelies if I hadn't already given them away to another local HT member in need of them.

No I don't think they will work, because it says its for an Accord which has a different lug pattern (4X114.3). You want a lug pattern of 4X100.

edit You're too fast Ricey :shakes fist:

You know me Skoundrel

I looked on Ebay to see if I could find any that would work for you, and the closest I saw were some CRX rims. They would techincally work, but they're not steelies.

what's that auction # for the CRX wheels?

I think that the wheels in #7987890056 would work well for me but I'm not pleased with the non-matching tires...

EDIT

OK well...didn't know "Yeah I mod" meant "modERATOR"...maybe a hint to new users that if you want to post more than five you can edit your own posts instead? All it says now is "You are only allowed five posts please try again later"...

60 on shipping. Ouch. Oh well, I guess 115 for a set with tires ins't bad considering those tires are worth that.

I still run some cheapy Khumho snow tires that came on my JDM ITR brakes from like a year and a half ago.

ReallyWildStuff back here with another ID, my first ID maxed out on posts due to NooB status, why all the harsh restrictions on this forum?

Re: Accord wheels - is the bigger bolt pattern for all years of the Accord?

Also, what is the "normal" upgraded size wheel for this vehicle? "As big a stock wheel as possible, i.e. 15s" is my thought, however helpful people here suggest 14"s also, is that a waste of $$ when 15s are available or are 15s bigger than non-Honda enthusiasts typically run or...?

Also, "all years Civic"? Including, say, thru 2005?

Thanks...I'll only get to post 4 more times today so I may no reply to your helpful post...

You really shouldn't make two accounts... They're are strict rules because people don't follow them

As for the Accord, I'm pretty sure no Accord wheels are 4X100.

Normal upgraded wheel size? I had 13" wheels (Vx rims) but didn't like them cuz they're too too small If you are looking to not spend too much money 14s are fine. Because remember, the bigger the wheel, the bigger the tire and bigger tires cost more. But I myself like the way 15"s look, handle, etc.

You can get wheels off any Civic (except the 2005 Si) /del sol/ Integra excluding the Type R or any car that used 4X100. I think 95-97 Jettas are and some older Miatas

First of all, please don't make new nicks. If you go to your post, you can edit it and add information, but I'm going to have to ban this nick. We allow one name per user.

The 14s are cheaper, and the tires are usualy fairly cheap as well. 15s are a little bigger, but the rims are more expensive and tires are more expensive. One advantage to 15s is that there is a huge selection of performance tires available in sizes that the Civic can use.

As far as I know, up to 05 all Civics still use the 4x100 lug pattern, but I haven't worked on a Civic newer than an '00.

Please log back onto your other name and edit your posts. Sorry, this name is no longer working.

Thanks to everyone who responded, we ended up purchasing these:

http://houston.craigslist.org/pts/84106917.html

for $320, didn't seem possible to arrive at a number much lower than that including good tires.

A little more flashy than I was originally looking for, but they're factory (so hopefully not that desirable from a theft pov) and I installed a gorilla lock kit so hopefully we'll be ok on that score.

Rides like a totally different car of course.

Thanks again...
