What kind of swap
Hey im looking to swap a motor. I have d16y7 non-vtec in a 97 civic lx. I have a budget of about 1500 and was wondering which motor would be the best to swap. I was looking at the b18c1, but dang thats thing is expensive. I was wondering maybe about a h22 or b16a, and will it work with my current tranny or will i have to change. Its an automatic.

first off your going to have to save up some more money if you want a vtec motor. if going with the H22, though it's cheaper for the actual engine, you still need special mounts, to much work if you ask me. the b series are alot easier, but for $1500 you can probably get a first gen b16 or a ls/crv motor.
no the trannies would not work with your current set up. you have to do a manual conversion which consists of installing the clutch line, pedals, resevoir, m/c, auto - manual tranny mount. there is more just can't think off the top of my head. but it's easier than installing a H22.

since you live in alabama, look to see if there is a nearest importer, or salvage yard that would carry these motors. if not your going to have it shipped to your door and probably would be looking at about $2000 - $3000.

or you can always go with a b18b or b20 which will run you about $700 - $1000 and later on pick up a vtec head and then slap it on.

seriously, save up some more money. You can find a good deal on an engine from jhotimports.com. they're in georgia, so thats not extremely far away. Whether or not they have any B16's, I don't know. Best way is to call them (if you're serious about buying one)

Save up some more money and check out hmotorsonline.com... Good quality swaps and great customer service...Or you can go the other route and bend your options a lil..With a $1500 budget your biggest bang for your buck is going to be a pieced together turbo set up..
