He's right. 350 is going to be a bit short for most cat backs. You'll either have to go custom, or save a little more cash.

You can get an Apex-i WS for less than $450. It's one of the quietest exhausts out there, but it has a chambered design.
Or get an old school RS-R.

Re: what kind of exhaust please (oneslowej)
Very quiet and flows well. In an old issue of Import Tuner (bleh...ricer mag), they tested a 99 Si with this exhaust. There was no power difference with the rear section removed or installed, indicating that it flowed very well. There was a 2.4 hp peak increase.
This exhaust is not straight through...it has a chambered muffler design meaning it should not flow as well as a straight-through muffler. But supposedly, it flows just as well.
The one for $340 does not have the signature RS*R tip. For some reason, it says "non-RS*R" tip... The 70 degree signature tip (the popular version) is sold out... There's another online shop that sells them, but I can't find it right now. RS*R will be selling these again, but I don't know how much they will be. Probably around $450.

RS*R was tested versus a apexi N1 and mugen muffler overall you get almost stock sound levels with the performance of a free-flowing exhaust and with the price that turboimport offers it's the best for a discreet street car

i had 2.5 custom piping, no cat, 14" glass pack, and a old school sebring tuning exhaust..... super quiet..... the muffler guy couldn't believe it.... i had it for about a year... now its all beat up, scratched, but it still sounds the same... i sold it for 40 bucks... i got it for free.... now i have dual magnaflow exhaust.... but they are those stock look alikes and i dont like the way they look.... im thinking about getting 2 sebring tuning exhaust but i cant find a place that sells them.... does anybody know where i can get a pair....

I don't know why you guys like the ES Oval so much. A few guys had it at the last HT meet I went to.....loud and whiny. Sounds just like all the little ricer cars IMO.
http://www.optauto.com has A'PEXi WS for $407 and shipping is between $40-$60 to your door.
HP Racing, Pacesetter, and Tsudo are the only cat-back systems in your price range right now. And I don't recommend any of them!

I got my WS for like $389 shipped. It is a good exhaust, good fitment, really popular on this board. Not the greatest power gains, but u said u wanted a quiet exhaust so compromises have to be made.

If the WS doesnt have that great of power gains, what exhaust would be recommended for a almost stock civic that would give the highest possible gain without being heard 8 miles away?

GReddy SP or Tanabe Hyper Medallion, assuming you'd rather not spend money on a custom exhaust.
