what just happened
i just swapped a b18 in my civic and i was drivin with my friend right. were sittin at this light and im like dude listen to this. my car's idle always spikes but when i pressed in the clutch it stopped. i was like thts weird. then as we turned the corner i was like whoa why is my car overheating. then like 2 seconds later i was like i have no power at all. then my car shut off. then i just coasted for about 2 minutes and turned it back on then dropped him off and drove a block over to my house. what was that.

yeah, that sounds screwy... i would start looking at wires and testing them. just go through things logically and check any of the systems that apply...cooling, ignition, fuel, powertrain management (sensors, switches, wire harness, ECU...). see what you can find.

So explain the idle in a little more detail...
Dome a quick favor. Go outside and take of the radiator cap. Tell me if the fluid in there looks milky.

The reason say this is a lot of the times a surging idle is cause by either the fitv be dirty/clogged, or the coolent level being low or there could be air in the coolent.
Now that I think of it, the air in the coolent sounds the most likely. You just installed a motor, and its common for people to overlook bleeding the coolent, or not to bleed it correctly. Thats would also explain the overheating...
