Default What is it? (inside distributer)

I have a stock 92 honda civic 1.5, 16 valve. As I wrote last week my honda stopped on me and then 10 minute later I was able to drive 1/2 mile then it stopped again. I have checked the fuel relay and it is ok, checked Fuel pump and it shoots fuel out the inlet tube at the filter. put on new fuel filter. Checked coil using ohm meter and it seems ok. Does anybody know what the black box inside the distrbuter is? It is about 1 1/2 inch long straight with a little bend in it. looks like it plugs in. ( has a crack in it) I also checked icm and it looks ok. Any ideas why it wont start
Thanks for any help Dave

In the picture it is at 7 o'clock from the center shaft of the distributer. I am not sure if I did it when I took off the roter or if it was cracked already. (The roter was a bear to get it off) Since it is cracked I should replace it . just not sure what it is. Big Dave

You might need to get a new distributor, if that piece is cracked i dont think you could replace it. Maybe someone else could give a better insite on it.

is there a check engine light off.. like cel #9 its the cyp sensor..

mines did the same thing.. just get a sodder and find a junk distributor with one in it.. any honda/ acura dixxy can fix it..

if there is no cel it might be one of your ignition wires.. did you do anything to the car lately?

No there was no check engine light that came on and I had done nothing to the car. If it was a wire would it not just have a miss in the motor and run rough. Does that unit just pull out? Thanks Dave

That there is your reluctor (spelling??)

It tells your coil when to fire. Like points on old engines.

it is prolly your igniter, mine went bad too and honda wanted $220 for it. so i did some research and found a brand new one on ebay for $200 shipped overnight. so far it has worked for me. You should be able to find a junk one

distrubtor king, get it from them. They use heat treated ignitors, non-china cores. It's your coil, cuase you don't have a irract tach signle, but it still could be the signs of a failed coil and ignitor. Bolth are very related and tend to go togther. Do not get a junkyard unit.. DO not get a honda dizzy... Honda makes some of the worst dizzy's in the world. Get one from distrubtor king. Saved me a massive headahce.

Like bpowa said the piece in the diagram at 7:00 by the dist-shaft looks more like a sensor. If it was hit hard enough to break it is probable out of position ?
Can't get it thru a dealer eh ?
