Default What is a good Header Upgrade?

I have a d16y8, and I'm not looking for a swap or boost, just the simple i/h/e for a little extra pep.

However, everyone talks about Intakes and Exhaust. Is everyone forgetting about the header? Which of the i/h/e usually produces the most performance gain?

I was looking at the DC Sports Header, but they seem to have a problem ever since they were taken over by Pilot Automotive. They haven't produced anything in like 11 months and everything is on backorder.

I was also looking at the GReddy Header, but there isn't really any reviews on this header. Does anyone know if it's good?

honestly if you would have searched you would have seen that the only real performance header for a d series would be bisimoto and unless you have 700 for that go ahead and get it. the dc header or greddy header is cosmetic(meaning about an actual 5 hp gain with that 200 dollar header

If you aren't going to boost, or do internals, than an i/h/e won't do you much, whether you spend $50 on a header, or $1,000. The only difference is the longevity of your header. With cheaper headers cracking almost instantly at times.

I have read about the bisimoto, but I want to keep PS and AC. And they haven't come out with Version 2 yet for the D series which you can keep AC. And yes 700 is quite pricey. I think it will actually be more than that when looking at their prices for the B Series headers.

But what I really want to know is why no one talks about upgrading the header when they upgrade intake and exhaust. Which part of the i/h/e is most restrictive?

Is that right? That's probably why there aren't many companies producing headers for D series or..?

Really, I only can think of the DC Sports and GReddy as the only ones, and then E-bay but I'd never get any generic thing off of E-bay.

Anyone else got opinons?

yeah, unless you spend 700 bucks for a header there's very little difference in performance.

get a megan header, best bang for the buck.

LOL i [freak]in love this. Have you ever cut open a stock Y8 manifold. Its double layered. I watched a friend throw a DC on his Y8 and picked up 4-6whp.

DC SPORTS 4-1 one piece header is my choice for my old 98ex but it has a larger profile and might tap the ground if you are slammed lower than 2.0" in the front.

I ran that with a 2.25" cat back from greddy, and a aem cold air. ran faster than my buddy who had the same mods except the header.

I believe headers do alot. more air in = more air out.

nice engine bay. (turbojdmhatch) what have you gained with that header and did you port or gasket match the exhaust ports to flow more to that set of bada$$ headers?

honestly, no matter how much money you spend on a n/a d-series, its still gonna be slow.. you should atleast save up for an LS swap if you want more "pep".. it'd run you about the same if you buy that bisimoto header.

well I bought a 55 dollar SSautochrome header and it works fine. I have a d16y8 mini me with full interior on my ej6 hatch and I have beat a few b16's. Any header will help

well the best thing to replace your header with is a turbo manifold and a gt35r.

But since you want no boost, you can get one of those mad tyte jdm ones for a **** ton of money that ain't really worth it, but it has a japanese company name engraved in it, so it must be good.

Honestly 35r LOL yeah sure 6500-7500 rpm power band borrrring.

Honestly look at it this way.

Do you have spare money you are just trying to blow to make the car faster?

Or are you not looking to put money in the car?

If this is just a way to blow some extra cash dont do it.

Either Boost the d series with a Greddy kit and hondata and chrome you can do this for well under 2,000

Or swap in a LS in there.

The D series does not make alot of power NA. You can build the **** out of it and you may make 160-180whp with alot of work.

IHE and cam and good tune maybe 130-140whp. Not worth it in my own mind.

But like you could do a Intake,Exhaust and hondata all these parts could be transfered onto a B series in the future.

Well....it depends on what people prefer.

I personally prefer immense amounts of lag so I can get good gas mileage when I'm daily driving.

I don't want boost before 3k rpm, [freak] that.

But everyone's different.

What gains do you have with that header? I wonder why more people don't have it. It must be an underground thing.

I guess people here have varying opinons if a header helps or not.
