What engine do i have?
Hello! This might be a really stupid question for most!
I'm new to Hondas I do know my way around cars tho (DSM background) anyway long story short a got this 92 hatch about a week ago but I'm really intriged to know what engine is under the hood the guy that i bought it from didn't know much about it either.
The hatch is a CDM 92 civic dx 5 speed manual, the block says d15b the head is vtec tho, so either is a jdm d15b or a mini me swap (read online about it) also it has a p28 ecu but the serial number indicates its for an automatic but got no check engine light.
thanks

Re: What engine do i have?
An OBD1 ECU can be reprogrammed from auto to manual by moving jumpers inside.
Valve cover air line is not hooked up, you need that so dusty unfiltered air doesn't go into the engine. Though most of those cone filters are basically unfiltered air anyway.

Thanks guys!
So in case of maintenance I just buy stuff for the d15 like timing belt water pump, distributor etc ? or in case of an upgrade like exhaust manifold I just order for d15? do all d15 share the same parts?

Re: What engine do i have?
D series parts are quite interchangeable. They all have the same exhaust ports. Distributor is different for VTEC vs. non-VTEC head. Water pumps should all be the same. There may be two versions of the timing belt, one a tooth shorter than the other, depending on which head you have.
The thing about a D15B is first it was originally sold only in Japan, so American parts stores won't know what you're talking about, and also there were several quite different engines all called the "D15B" with different heads, maybe even one of them was DOHC.

I think the DOHC 1.5 liter was labelled ZC. And like the D15B, there was a multiples types of ZC. One is DOHC and the other(s?) are SOHC.
On the D15B, I believe there is 4 motors:
- Carb D15B
- Fuel Injected non vtec D15B
- Fuel Injected vtec D15B
- Fuel Injected 3 stage D15B
What I'm not sure of is if there was a dual carb D15B or if it only came in the single carb flavor. If there is a dual, then there is 5 D15B's.
