i thought d15b comes with vtec, isn't the d15b an EG4(VTi) motor?

Morning Call 08-01-2005 10:11 PM

d15b is a jdm motor https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emsmile.gif
could be from alot of models.. the japanese for some reason made different engines and gave them the same engine codes...

ie: b18c1 and b18c5 in north america have different internals, different power, but in japan both of them are just called b18c https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emsmile.gif

u my friend have a non vtec d15b as everyone else said.. coulda been in more then one car, in more then one year

You have a non VTEC d15b.

Pioneer162 08-02-2005 05:09 AM

D15b4, non-vtec, weaksauce without a turbo.

Re: (Pioneer162)

it's not a d15b4, right now im thinking it's probably as morning call had said. some kind of weird ass civic from japan/germany and such. i found something at hondaswap saying there were at least four types of D15B motors in japan. all of them had vtec/vtec-e except one. but that one that isn't vtec is carb so rules that out. still lost to as knowing what motor i have http://images.honda-tech.com/set1//smile/emcrook.gif

the following are civics that came with D15Bs (from hondaswap)

92-95 Civic VTi, 96-00 Civic Vi, 92-95 Civic ETi, 92-95 Civic MX, 97+ Domani 15E MB3

SOHC D15b vtec

Re: (HmgLauj69)

It's a D15B non-VTEC engine that originally came with a twin carb intake manifold. I know because we get these all the time from an importer to replace US-spec 1992-1995 Civic 1.5L non-VTEC engines. It's as simple as adding the stock US intake manifold, so carb'd or not originally, it works fine fuel-injected as long as you block off the port where the old carb'd distributor used to be.

Good news:

It's a 16-valve engine much like the 92-95 DX engine. so in other words it's probably 102hp instead of the shitty-ass 8-valve 70hp CX engine.

Bad news:

It's only 102hp.

Definately.

Take some detailed pics of the area near the distributor - if there is a little plate that's almost oval-shaped with two bolts through it and it's sealed with gasket maker, then it was definately originally carb'd.

EDIT - I see that plate on your lower right pic, in the lower right corner of the pic.

It's definately an originally carb'd engine, because that plate blocks off where the mechanical fuel pump used to be when it was carb'd.

Honda had carb'd Civics well through the EG chassis in Japan.

B18C5-EH2 is correct. I use to have one of these motors in my EG hatch. It replaced my blown DX motor. And it came with twin carbs and all we did was swap out the intake manifold and dropped right in. You can tell it's non-vtec by looking at the valve cover. Sohc Vtec's have the spark plug holes pointing to the front of the car. While non vtec sohc points to the rear. All I have to say is when I had this motor and I raced my cousins truck. I was being pulled. Now I have z6 and I got to say big diff.

siregcivic 08-02-2005 04:46 PM

wo good infor b18c5.... my friend had a d15b non vtec.. and it had the same plate and i thought the same thing that someone jacked the vtec solinoid so i pulled the valvecover to see if it had the extra lobe and it didnt... i was very confused about it for a bit about why it would have the plate there and not the solinoid and no cam
