i believe it means you aren't getting enough fuel to your system or it's working too hard to get it... check your fuel pump and lines and your filter... not 100% on meaning though

Start by checking your fuel pressure, I had the same CEL.
Get a guage, hook it up ontop of the filter, should be reading 43-48psi static (meaning you unplug the vacuum line from the fuel pressure regulator to the intake manifold so you get an accurate reading).
If it's lower, it's probably not your fuel pump, electric fuel pumps usually don't "slowly die out" - they usually just "go" - like binary, working one day, not the next. Though it IS still possible.
If it's low I'd first start changing the filter on the firewall, then check the one in the gas tank (it's probably not that, but it's worth a look). If both fuel filters are clean/new and you're still getting insufficient fuel pressure at the filter, next thing I would check is the fuel pressure regulator. If it's adjustable adjust it to see if you can bring the fuel pressure into the norm, if it's not, replace it with an OEM one, if that's still not the problem, it's probably the fuel pump.
There isn't much else if you're not throwing enough pressure at the filter.
Just check the pressure, then we'll go from there.
