What does EK, EG, EJ codes for Civic stand for??

Just wondering what these abbreviations stand for? Do they mean something? I tried to search and when I searched for the different ones I was only finding the same year (96-01 models) civics. But what exactly do they mean?

em1=99-00 civic si
eg2= dohc vtec del sols
eh6= sohc vtec del sols
