Default what does this do exactly???

in this picture...listed as #24. it is the air assist solenoid valve. i have two issues

for one i broke the side port off and have no clue where the hose is or where it is to go from to that port.

TWO since that port broke i bypassed this complete valve. now the car overheats when i sit in traffic. i highly doubt it has any effect through this valve as it does not open into the coolant....it is sealed and opens at certain temps. yet what will it hurt if i leave it bypassed.

bit more info on the car.....

i acquired the car from a good friend that got tired of it sitting in his driveway (sat for 4 years) it is a 2000 model with only 28xxx miles on it...all original. the car was stolen shortly after he got it....and shortly after we put a body kit on it, wheels, suspension, exhaust, leather conv. kit on interior. so of course all that was stolen. so i basically got it as a rolling chassis with some interior piecing it back to life along the way. now it is my daily driver ( still no title but working on it) thus why i need to work out the overheating problem. i did a leak down test all is good coolant is not leaking out until it overheats then it bubbles out of the overflow. unless it just needs a good system cleaning from sitting for 4 years..... throw me ideas, concerns...possibilities....experienced issues...anything please help....hey if you have the valve lemme know. thanks

#24 looks like a fan switch, that cuts on the radiator fan when your thermostat opens

Looks to me like the valve on the thermostat housing your supposed to open when you fill the cooling system, but it is very hard to tell form the drawing.

Can you post a pic of what it looks like on your car, that might help me get a better idea of what we are talking about?

Does the cooling fan turn on? Could just be a bad cooling fan switch. They're like $25 bucks at Advanced.

Actually #13 is the switch that tells the fan when to come on. I just replaced one on a B18C1 last night for a neighbor and voila fan came on no more overheating.

I believe it has something to do with the 99-00 air injection system.

oh **** didn't look at it closely, prolly the bleeder valve to release air in your coolant system, air can cause ur motor to heat up cuz no water is gettin in until that airjack gets out...

#24 is probably t pipe that feeds into the heater core. not sure though.
but back to your overheating. IMO, dump the old stuff, change the thermo, and put new fluid in there, and make sure you burb the system. most likely you have air in your system.

dump what old stuff.....after it sat for 4 years it had nothing in it..so it has all new 50/50 mix of coolant/water.

im gonna try the thermo this weekend hopefully it fixes it. but i already know it opens and shuts b/c otherwise the fan would not kick on.

sorry, i miss read it. i thought you said there was fluid in there even after 4 years. LOL!

yeah, change the thermo. though the fan is kicking on maybe the thermo isn't opening all the way that it should.

i believe that valve has a vacuum line that hooks to it to help keep air out of the cooling system, once the thermostat opens that valve shuts. some how it gets the air out without getting coolant out.
