Default what to do for VX?!

I searched the vtec-e archived postings and none answered my questions...I know power in a 94 vx might be a stretch, but what I'd like to do is put a 96+ ex motor in it. I have a 99 coupe and I'd like to have as much power in my hatch. Is this possible? If you know any websites that have done the swap or have done it yourself, please let me know, cause as soon as I sell my ek I'm going to start on my hatch. Thanks in advance!

thanks to all who replied....hmmmmm...anyways, would changing the tranny free up some power, maybe even putting a different head on it? just asking because the motor runs good and technically there is only 30 hp difference from my d16y8 to my d15z1. Hope to hear something this time and thanks in advance!

So you want to change the the vtec-e head to a vtec head, if I understand correctly.

A while back I talked to splittime who did this so you can ask him.
https://honda-tech.com/zero...12918

BUT once you are done with the head do not expect to have the full power or even close.... The ecu for once uses fuel maps that target fuel economy...

So you will need a different ECU, head and tranny to see some gain.... At this point you have spent close to a 95 Si full swap and you are still slower...

Keep the VX stock and enjoy the 45MPG. There is no point to do a head swap other than learning more about your car... (my opinion of course)

what is the engine code for a 95 si and will it drop directly into my hatch, mounts, linkage,etc...? is the hp worth it or should I go bigger or not at all?

It is the D16Z6, and it'll bolt right in.

ok, let's recap...

You have a 99 coupe and a VX and you want the VX to have as much power or more?

What is your budget?

Are you planning to do this on your own?

Do you know what a b18c1 is?

If you swap another motor into it, even the D16Z6 you will have to deal with the o2 sensor wiring, the 12v is in a different place on the VX ECU.

All you have to do is repin 1 wire. Takes 5 mins.

o.k. I have a 99 ex and am selling it, I also have a 94 vx. now, I'm planning on doing something to the vx for power,ie...motor swap, rebuild, or other. I have either a d16y8 or a 1st gen b16 to choose from, (shop owner is a buddy of mine from back in High School), I was just trying to see if it would be worth my time to work on the d15z1 that is in my vx or just go ahead and buy one of the swaps he has. The b16 is a complete swap and he said I can have it for $850 and the y8 is mine for $600 and is also complete. So, now it's opinion time. Thanks to whoever replied!

Wiring mod for Z6 into VX chassis:

The Y8 is also a good choice - and will be very similar to swap in as the Z6.

If you have more D-related questions, check my sig.

Simple as hell. Get the B16, don't even waste the time on the Y8 if you can get the B16 for $250 more. Trust me.

This is a no-brainer, get the b16. If you are hungry to learn, then rebuild that with some CTR pistons and cams.

Definitely, that's a hell of a deal for a B16. Bottom line here is don't try to work with the d15z1, go with something else.
