Don't cheap out on suspension. $1000 is just mid level stuff. You're talking several times more for the "best". If anything, get GC + Koni, maybe 96-98 front lip and call it good. Your ride is already clean already. Them Y5's get awesome mileage. My old 97 hx, I was getting 47mpg on the freeway. That's going 70-75, too. Hybrid territory.

<-------- Check my screen name.

I did a lot ghetto (cheap) mods and regretted every single one. I never dyno'd the car, but on my but dyno, intake, header and exhaust hurt performance and it's awesome fuel economy.

I installed an EX tranny, which did help acceleration, but further hurt MPG. I don't race so it was pretty much a useless mod. I thought it would help on track days, but there's not much a civic can do when trying to keep up with Corvettes and Evos.

If I could go back in time I would keep the car completely stock.

Suspension, wheels, tires...a nice sound system.
Tint, no tint - your choice.
Avoid kits and spoilers.

Hey man, clean start. I happen to have the same car except mines is a '98. I was having the same dilemna as you for a while, but now I seem to have my mind made up. Not much is needed to make this car "clean as ****" as it already is clean. First I'm planning to work on my suspention (check out Function&Form Type 1 Coilovers), then exterior (99-00 Front/Rear end conversion) Black housing headlights, SI Taillights, some clean wheels, probably a light tint (30%) all around, Rear window visor (not a fan of the SI spoiler), Lips (front&back Type R/Mugen/ or OEM if you can find them!), respray her RED! then some nice clean wheels (no bigger than 16 inch as stated above. Can't wait till mine is done, good luck with yours! Here's a pic of mine as she sits now:

Yes please don't ruin that car. The amount of clean civics dwindle every single day when people take stock ones and ruin them. If you want a ruined car buy it preruined.

Get a intake
lower the car
get some light tint
get a nice sounding exhaust, none of the ricer can exhaust, just something nice
H.I.Ds?
rims?

thats pretty much all of the "cheap" mods.

Can you please elaborate on this statement? I purchased the car as is, all I have done to it in the picture is give it a nice wash. I recently registered it and am putting in the OEM springs/struts this weekend. I also have the stock headlights/grille. I guess you can say I purchased the car "pre-ruined" but for $1100 with 98,000k and no mechanical problems or rust, where did I go wrong?

I believe what he is saying is don't get cheap parts like what is mostly on that car, if that's the case with the car I would say that's a steal.

Side note to op, if you get new wheels sell me yours.

Yeah, that's why I'm going back to OEM, and saving for quality parts. Never settle for eBay crap.

I too am on the hunt for some HX wheels for my winter mode.. which are nearly impossible to find in Boston.

ok so i have read every persons oppinions so far.
looks like this is what my mind is pretty much headed for tell me if im stupid or wrong:

2000 front conversion:
si grill, fenders, hood, lip, headlights, bumper, foglights, etc.
COLOR match the whole front end including the lip
drop the car on some coilovers about 2 inches,
get a window tint
a possible exhaust,

and i believe so far thats all im thinking about doing.

will any of this effect my MPG? im kinda wondering if my car actually gets 40mpg+ like they say the HX models do... any way to really figure this out ?
sorry thats just another question on the side, not for this forum post.

Don't do anything! Don't buy anything!

Read, read, read, read, read, read, READ!

Look at photos.

Research anything you even think about getting. Figure out what they sell for. Figure out the problems. Figure out what said part might not work with.

Then wait until you find the right part for sale. Don't jump on a part just because it comes up for sale.

Give your car time to become what you want it to be. Don't rush into it. You'll just spend more than you need to and possibly buy a lot of parts you regret (didn't end up wanting it, didn't fit, wrong specs, etc.).

Following those guidelines have left me with a car like this.
