7200 is fuel cut-off. Stock tachs suck.

Does the fuel cut-off always coincide with the redline on the tach?

redlines at 7200........cuts off at 7500 i think or 7400..somewhere around there.
go out side and hit the rev limiter real quick then you will know for sure.

I just went outside in the rain. Unfortunately I don't have a digicam, but the stock tach in my 98ex redlines just before 7k.

nope. according to my stock tach my redline is at 6.9 and fuel cutoff at 7.2. this is a d16y8, not a z6. z6 is different.

i used to have a 97 EX and its redline was at 6800, never reached the fuel cut off, and right now I have a 95 EX so I know that the redline is 7200....i know that the redline on my 95 is not the fuel cut off either, cuz i've gone past it a few times ****** around....

hmmm... I have a y8 running on an unchipped, stock p28 ecu. However, my rev-limiter's at 7800...it redlines at 7800 all the time, not just sometimes...wtf?
would it be dangerous to rev the single cam motor that high?

not smart to go past the redline on a stock valvetrain. You are lucky that you haven't bent a valve.

why don't you just find out where the rev limiter is and shift right before that.

6800 is where the y8 is making its peak horsepower, I do not think this is the same as the redline.
