I was gonna say the same thing...just buy a b and boost it!

+1, unless you just want to be different and show off a quick d series. It's whatever you want. Depends on what your looking for.

Boost the D, anybody that chooses to run a stock B16a2 over a boosted D is a ricer .
With a B16 you get what, 140, 145 tops hp?
Not that much more than a stock D series, with like 10 more ft-lbs of torque (which is just pathetic). Use a D, on stock internals it could double your HP. Using the HP equation you can calculate an estimated flywheel torque for the B16A2 and the D16Z6 respectively:
(5250 * 160) / 8300 = 101ft-lbs tq.
(5250 * 125) / 7200 = 91ft-lbs tq.
55superbeetle's stock D16Z6 on boost - bone stock with ARP headstuds
Using about a 7000 RPM peak torque redline, he's running 245hp @ 185ft-lbs tq. - not only that, but those numbers are at THE WHEELS. The B16a2 produces 160 hp at the crank, giving it like 130-145 hp at the wheels. This is about 100hp over that.

that depends upon the situation though. If he just wants to go faster, then just boost the D. Ive seen built d's go up to 400+. If you wanted some power/ wanted a reliable DD with lower miles than the motor already in there, i would swap it. It would also depend on your budget/time frame.

Re:
Sell the D and swap a B18b1 into your car.
You are in so cal and I know of plenty of people selling their complete B18b1 swaps for $700 or so. Save some cash and turbo that bish or just enjoy a comfortable DD.
Im currently in the process of each. I have two blocks... one for a stock build and one for a turbo build. The stock will be in to get that BAR sticker and to swap back in if I happen to receive a REF ticket. There is no way my B18b1-T is going to pass smog, but its always good to have a back up
