Is this what a distributor should feel like?
Hi guys/gal, I was trying to put on an old distributor while I send in my current one to Distributor King because it apparently is leaking oil.
When I turn the old distributor by hand, it is not totally smooth. It still turns, but I can feel a little resistance/bumpiness every few degress. I was wondering if this is normal? I've had to give this distributor a few love taps to loosen the screw that hold the rotor on, and I'm not sure if this caused the unsmooth-ness, or if it is supposed to be like that?
BTW, 99 D16Y8
Thanks for any help,
Florida

yes, that is normal. if you look inside, there are a few spots where the distrib makes contacts, so it will not be smooth, like a alternator.

oil can leak into the dizzy if the seals are shot.

Re: (brick top)
Yea it would be normal. If you have a dizzy that DOESN'T do that...then you should be concerned. But in agreeance with previous posters, you could probably just replace the o-ring and save yourself some money for shipping and such.

Re: (bart2546)
you cannot replace the internal seal/bushing on a distributor (well, nobody sells one separate). the oring on the end of the distrib shaft is to stop oil from leaking onto the side of the head/block. if you have oil INSIDE the dizzy, you need a new one.
