Re: what is the diffrence in EK4 and EK9 (chicago_EK4)

The "EK" is the chassis code. The numbers denote different models of the same chassis. However, the EK notation is for the japanese version of the car. Here in the US, they are referred to as EJ.

You can find your specific vehicle's chassis code in your VIN.

Check this out -->https://honda-tech.com/zerothread/1928390. It will tell you how to find it and many other things you may want to know about chassis codes and their corresponding vehicles.

The EK9 is the 1997-2000 Honda Civic Type R hatchback. It was only originally sold in Japan. The car came with a B16B engine and was available in a limited number of colors (white, yellow, silver, black). It came with white alloy wheels, a standard front lip, a standard rear lip, gunmetal housing headlights, red Recaro SRDs, red carpeting and mats, black interior paneling, front and rear strut tower bars, and many other parts exclusive to the trim.

The EK4 is a 1996-2000 Honda Civic hatchback which came with a B16A in Japan or a B16A2 outside of Japan. One country also had models which came with a B16A4 or B16A5 (I'll have to check the country again, but one engine came in the manual version and the other came in the otherwise unheard of automatic version). The EK4 was also available as a sedan and the EM1 is the "coupe version" of it.

The options on the EK4 vary depending on the country of origin. These options include alloy wheels, a moonroof, front lip and various interior options. EK4s went by several names including: SiR, VTi and VTiR.

Not all EK4s came with bumper moldings. In fact, the bumper moldings came on all hatches and sedans in several countries. They were not exclusive to the EK4 trims.

As far as chassis codes (which EK4 and EK9 are), there are no EK chassis cars which were originally sold in the US market. EK chassis cars are hatches and sedans only and were sold in Europe, Australia, Japan and a number of other countries outside of North America.

The US market cars are as follows:

EJ6 - CX 3dr / DX 2-3-4dr / LX 4dr / VP 4dr - D16Y7 (1.6L SOHC)

EJ7 - HX 2dr - D16Y5 (1.6L SOHC VTEC-E)

EJ8 - EX 2-4dr - D16Y8 (1.6L SOHC VTEC)

EM1 - Si 2dr - B16A2 (1.6L DOHC VTEC)

EN1 - GX 4dr - D16B5 (1.6L SOHC VTEC CNG)

Not all EK chassis cars are "impressive" per se. The European EK1, for example, came with a D61Y5 and an available CVT/HMM (continuously Variable Transmission / Honda Multi-Matic) transmission. The EK3 came with a 1.5L even though the ViRS version was decked out to lead some to expect a little more.

Hope this helps out a bit. I know there's a lot of misinformation out there.

I used to be a secretary for the state.

I'm typing slower right now though. I'm using an obnoxious keyboard right now since half the keys on the other one suddenly stopped working. I had to remove all the keys from this one and carefully clean it all with detail spray and cotton swabs because a soda was spilt on it so the underside of the keys were all gross. It could have been a stupid computer problem with the other keyboard though. I miss my quiet, easy to type with keyboard. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emsad.gif

dont bump super old ass threads lol. i think there should be some kind of "old thread bump police"

i might make an account to fit such a description, and then bust people for violating this haha.

anyway while im here, you can tell by looking at the VIN numbers on the car. someone could have easily swapped the b16a2 into your car. also check the VINs on the motor.
