What CPU to get for a DOHC ZC?
I've done some looking around, and I know my motor isn't exactly a popular eg swap, but I cant' seem to find much info on a CPU for a DOHC ZC. I just purchased a 92 eg hatch and it was throwing a CEL. When you try to read the CEL, the CEL goes off while the pins are shorted. Restarting the engine only puts the CEL back on. I also have power loss between around 3200 - 4500 RPM. It's been suggested it's either a CPU going bad (which the funky CEL seems to confirm) or possibly plug-wires going bad. I'm picking up some denso plug-wires Monday. A friend of mine has a stock P28 in his 93 Si that I'm going to test on as soon as he gets back in town to see if the CEL goes away. Assuming that works, what's the suggested cpu to replace my faulty one with? Will the P28 work even though I don't have a VTEC head?
Yes, I are NOOB, just looking for some help.
Thanks!

First of all find a stock 92-95 Civic DX computer - middle part number P06 - just to use as a diagnostuic tool in checking the engine light problem.
The Dx ECU will be fine to plug in and check for codes - do not worry at all that it's originally a SOHC ECU - makes no difference.
If your check engine light issue is resolved then you can try and find an OBD1 Integra LS computer. There are two choices - 92/93 version is a PR4, and the 94/95 version is a P75. You MUST make sure either ECU has the OBD1 plug though, because there are OBD0 PR4 ECUs out there, and OBD2A/B P75 ECUs as well.
The actual part number for an OBD1 DOHC ZC engine is I be,ieve a P29 which is next to impossible to find.
The Integra ECU will be fine, but may run a touch rich. Honestly a run of the mill 92-95 Civic DX P06 will run the engine well to, be,ieve it or not.
A long time ago on an OG Hybrid website they dyno tested a B20 engine swap with an Integra ECU vs. a stock DX ECU and the DX ECU actually made more power, believe it or not!

BTW a P28 will be sure to throw check engine codes for VTEC, so it might not be the best choice to use as a diagnostic tester ECU.
BTW:
What does your distributor look like? I'm wondering if someone hasn't rigged the wrong distributor up to that engine since there is only one very specific distributor for that engine. The previous owner might have bought that swap without a distributor and ghetto rigged the wrong one.
Got any pics of it?

Re: What CPU to get for a DOHC ZC? (B18C5-EH2)
I don't know anyone with a standard DX ECU, but I'm sure I could find someone in the Richmond area to let me test it out in.
Below are pictures from the image bay. I scaled them down, but I hope they have enough detail to see what you need.
I'm not a complete stranger to automotive work, but this is my first Honda, so I'm a little slow on the uptake right now. Any help you could provide in this area would be greatly appreciated!

Yes that is the correct entire distributor/cap etc.
Looks like a new Richporter/Distributor King distributor - very nice.

Re: What CPU to get for a DOHC ZC? (Crx Jimmy)
I found a p06 for sale on the marketplace, just can't post there yet. Just got to wait for day 7 I guess I've seen several people suggest getting the P06 then having it chipped with a ZC map... is chipping it even necessary with only simple bolt-on's (to my knowledge) installed? I'm assuming from B18C5-EH2's post that it may not be.

You could find a P06 (5-speed version - auto will throw check engine light for lock-up control solenoid for auto trans.) and take the car to a dyno that has a wideband 02 sensor tailpipe reader to see what the a/f ratios are during some baseline dyno pulls.
If it's lean then it would be as simple as finding someone who does Uberdata or Crome installs/tuning in your area. I'm sure there's plenty of tuners/installers that use Uberdata and/or Crome in Virginia.
