What clutch best for my 94 Del Sol VTEC B16A3 (with plans to boost)?
I have a 94 VTEC with a cold air intake, everything else stock. I'm rebuilding the motor OEM and then I'm going to boost it. I want to get a performance clutch but I'm not sure how far to go with it. I'm thinking a stage 2 will probably do it but I'm wondering if I should go with a stage 3 just in case. It's primarily a street/daily driving car but I'm going to take it to the track once I boost it.

a stage 1 is all you need.....but stage 1-3 share the same pressure plates by most company's so if you want to over clutch go ahead...
i have a 96 civic with a stage 1 and a light flywheel and some shifter work and its fine.. grabs hard as hell and kick the sh*t out of the 109 hp engine...

How much power do you plan on making? This will allow you to pick the right clutch/pressure plate setup.

I'm new to this so I'm not exactly sure. I'm estimating in the 250-325 range depending on what kind of turbo I put on it. I'm getting a lightened flywheel too.

Re: Need advice on what stage clutch for my Del Sol
my brother has a stage 1 in his sol. it feels very nice.
when i bought my si, the previous owner wasnt sure of what stage clutch was in it, i think its 2, cause it feels stiffer than my brothers. so i would go stage 2

I hate it when people refer to clutches universally as "stage 1 or stage 3"
Every company has different clutches and different marketing. Just saying "stage 2" is a terrible idea as it really matters which clutch manufacturer you're talking about.

for mild turbo builds I've seen many people run an OEM clutch. There's no problem with that whatsoever.
For more serious builds 250+whp you might want to get something a little more substantial. There's no need to go overkill on your clutch.
WHP is actually a pretty good rule of thumb. If you're planning a mild turbo build I would get something a little stiffer than stock.
To reiterate, some "Stage 1" is an OEM replacement with some companies, other companies their Stage 1 is not an OEM replacement, it might be similar to someone elses stage 2 or stage 3.

i highly recomend using a Competetion Clutch. I have a Stage 5 unsprung 4 puck in my car and it holds its own. A competition stage 2 will be fine. Anything else will be overkill for your power goals.
