What can a tune do?

What can a tune do?
I always read about people getting a tune on their car but I was wondering what a tune would do if your car isn't turbo'd? What would a tune do for me? I got a 96 Civic hatchback with a JDM B18C1 engine swapped in.
Thanks

Re: What can a tune do?
You're not going to like this answer, but you need to do more research. I could write paragraphs explaining the point of tuning, the benefits of it, and the risks of not tuning, but you could get a lot of the same information with an hour of Google searching and reading.
The short answer is: if the engine is nearly stock, you're fine. If you hear detonation, you're not fine.

Alright cool
I'm assuming my engine is nearly stock since I haven't touched any of the internals and the engine isn't acting funny. So I should be good without a tune for the time being?

Anytime you change a part from the factory to aftermarket
(eg. a header or intake, or cams and valvetrain)
the engine has the opportunity to make more power..
and since the flow characteristics are altered,
the ignition timing, fuel curve and timing need to dialed in.
For Short that is...
